  1. He's a good player, no doubt.  He does get more attention than he deserves because of his pedigree and because he's constantly SCREAMING and pumping his fists drawing attention to himself.  His hair also makes him very recognizable and easy to remember.  I don't know if you call this "overrated," but definitely not one of the best players in the NCAA.

  2. seems like we're just not playing that well on the road.  what's the last bad home game we've had?  (army 2004).  Kansas, cinci, uconn(05), and Pitt (05) were all on the road, and were all games we would have won if they were at home.  It's still a young team and we're learning to win on the road (RUT, WVU, UNC)

The shut out in the MCCB is a tired argument.  Me moved the ball and missed field goals/went for it on 4th downs, but they ultimately had a fantastic defense (multiple defensive players drafted from that team including #1 overall).  Still we only lost by two scores.  It's not like we lost by 40 and got shut out.

  3. He's got to have somebody else in  mind before he pulls the trigger.  He can't just go out and hire somebody "new."  They have to be somebody who is right for the position.  We truly could do worse than CRM and Mr. Woolard knows that.  We've already heard a couple of solid candidates say that they could consider leaving their current positions if they had a "great situation" to step into as a HC.  Well, i'm not sure those guys would even consider USF right now.  I hope woolard is trying to see what kind of options we have out there before he pulls the trigger on CRM.

At this point, I think either way we will be better next season.

  4. USF's schedule makers have done an outstanding job.  You can't expect us to go from playing in CUSA to competing with UF, FSU, MIA, TEX, USC, and Ohio State.  We need to keep "building" the program (which is what we are doing with the current schedules).  We should continue to play the teams like UNC, NCstate, Michst, and Indiana.  We have games scheduled with all of these teams in the next few years, not to mention MIA, UF and AUB.

UCF played a bunch of big time teams for a couple of years and where did that get them?  We're better off playing a "decent" schedule and continuing to go to bowl games every year vs. playing a really difficult schedule and missing a bowl game.

  5. Well, we've already got a great staff in place for next year, minus the 2 grad assistants(money is not an issue there).  We'll have another 100,000 to go around during the next "assistant shuffle."  Shouldn't be too bad.  We're getting there.  More money doesn't always mean better results (see UCF).

In related news it looks like we dodged a bullet by retaining douglas after minnesota offered him a nice pay increase....according to Brett's blog today.

A few more years of winning and increased fan support and this program will be very financially sound.  They're doing the right thing by trying to spend responsibly since we are still such a young program with a questionable fan base.

  6. What I think a lot of us forget is that most of the recruits that are in the class of 2007 won't even play until 2008 or 2009.  Those that have academic issues will have that year to straighten them out.

It's true that only a few of these recruits will be expected to contribute this year, but it's always better to have them developing on-campus, along-side their fellow teammates.  Plus if they end up going the juco route, the whole recruiting process starts all over.

  7. So does anybody else think we could possbily push 50k for the Louisville game? If that game ends up being for the conference, I think we could do it.

good point.  I think this schedule shapes up very very nicely in terms of attendance.  This year, both our ESPN games are AWAY.  Our holiday game is AWAY (PITT).  And we have an awesome home sched.  If we have another good year in 07, our home crowds will be huge.

  8. The fact that we are getting FLA talent is way underemphasized.  Every weekend you hear commentators talking about how teams like Rut/WF/GT/etc, etc are stockpiled with "Florida talent."  Many of these kids were 2 or 3 star guys but they certainly have the ability.  We are lucky that 95% of our team is from the state regardless of their 2-star status.

The recruiting has definitely gotten progressively better.  In the 1-A ind years we were playing kids that were recruited as 1-AA players.  In CUSA we were playing with kids recruited as 1-A ind players.  In the BE we've been playing with kids who were recruited as CUSA players.  In the next year or two, our talent level will finally catch up to our competition level.  We have never experienced this before, so i'm excited as hell to see how that plays out. ;D

  9. Leavitt has said on several occasions that we will continue to play a 1-AA team every year as long as it counts towards bowl eligibility.  His reasoning had something to do with the fact that we were once 1-AA (not too long ago) and it was very important for us to get that "big" division 1-A game every year.  It seems like he's trying to look out for the little guy as much as he's trying to guarantee a victory.  We wouldn't be where we are today if none of the "big-time" programs wanted to play a 1-AA team each year.
