Dennis Dodd's mailbag that is devoted almost entirely to defending his piece on UCF. The highlight for me?

    "From: Adam

Please present all the facts. UCF hired that independent investigator to make sure that media outlets such as yours do not keep falsely speculating on the issue. THEY ARE CONFIDENT THEY DID NOTHING WRONG. It is funny how some of the media, usually those who are supporters of UF, FSU, Miami such as at the Orlando Sentinel tend to slam UCF whenever they get a chance, especially the day before signing day. People fear UCF.

    Confused in Orlando:

Fear? FEAR? Fear what? The 4-8 record last season? The recruits who de-committed from Florida, Florida state and Miami? Fear the nation's worst offense (119th last season, I checked)?

Thanks for ending this discussion with a heavy dose of logic."

    Classic....

    ;)

  2. Fave 5:

    1. Woody George (Any guy who can pull a boot off his car with his bare hands is alright by me!)

    2. Ean Randolph (Still haven't been able to replace the little guy's playmaking ability)

    3. Hakeem Shaheed/Radenko Dobras (Remember that last trip to the dance when we played Alonzo Mourning and the Hoyas?)

    4. Kenyatta Jones - (Not for football, but because I'll never forget seeing all 300 pounds of Yatta in a basketball jersey)

    5. Luka Jovanovich - (Basketball wasn't basketball in the late nineties unless you heard "LUUUUKKKAAAA JOOOVANOVICH!")

    Honorable Mention:

The Old "Brahman" Rocky costume: <sigh>

Seth Greenberg: once infamously said "Sometimes your the tree, and sometimes your the dog....tonight, we were the tree"

    Our old Robo-Goat logo

The live Bull we're always rumored to be getting

The OCS we're always rumored to be getting

    Infamous five:

    1. Carlton Hill : Still waiting for C4 to come back and lead us to the promised land

    2. Johnny Peyton: Blue chip receiver whose only problem was that he couldn't catch

    3. BB Waldon: B.B. was SUPPOSED to stand for basketball...but Altron Jackson was better.

    4. Ben Moffett: Didnt even do ONE paper the whole time? Really??

    5. Mike Ford: Best running back we have...except he is always hurt, doesn't have the best ypc, cant catch, and can't block :)

    Honorable Mention:

    Matt Grothe: "Mr. Bartender"

    That stupid Golden Shovel

    Rod Smith

    Pink flamingos

  3. I think Pitt jumps us, and to be honest it is hard to make a convincing arguement why they shouldn't.  Polls really aren't that important to us anymore.  We win the BE and we are going to a BCS bowl.

There's a bit of a problem with your statement.

USF needs help to win the Big East (specifically 2 losses by Pitt).

Which means the only other way USF gets a BCS bis is...

    ...

    wait for it

    ...

    ...

    dependent upon the polls!

    Jim's logic will destroy us!!!

  4. ;D Since our game? ;D

    Just wondering.......

Do you boys have anything at all figured out?

Yes, there is a difference in having a good team and having a good program.  In order to proclaim having a good program you must at least hoist 1 conference trophy before claiming to be part of the big 3.  That is all. ::)

Not sure who has been saying we're in the historical "big 3"...because obviously we are a young program that cannot compare with that kind of history. But any unbiased, realistic discussion of the current college football landscape in our state now must include USF along with those schools, which is a phenomenal revelation in just 12 years. Our "program" has only been a BCS school for 4 years and is coming off of 3 straight bowl appearances and one more win will make it 4. We haven't been around long enough to be talking about our "program" just yet, but we've gotten off to a tremendous start.

Meanwhile...after 33 years the UCiF program's claim to fame is being the "biggest school not in a major conference".  Of course UCiF is the defending champion of their existing conference....a conference which even many truthful alumni admit...is irrelevant. Getting pounded by UTEP just reiterates what should already be well established: that UCiF is just a footnote on a list which includes FIU and FAU. The sad part is that the Kniggits will really have a hard time gaining much separation from even those schools once their new programs get going because UCiF has already proven that all the facilities in the world don't equal results. It's no wonder you ppl hate us.

  5. It would be nice if the buildings at least bore some semblance of architectural consistency or "flow". It's like they just picked random building designs and just placed them next to each other. I realize that some of that is because there are "original" buildings and newer...but it's not very aesthetically pleasing.

Oh yah....get that darn elementary school off the campus and put up a football stadium  >:D

  6. Remember, Leavitt made Grothe "earn it" last year by letting Julmiste go out and suck it up for a half against McNeese St. I would imagine that he doesn't make the same mistake again and will go with the most talented players, not just the most experienced.

Not sure that Leavitt made Grothe earn it as much as he had no choice. let's not forget that C4 was the projected starter going into spring last year until he goofed up. Leavitt felt he couldn't hand the team over to just a redshirt freshman immediately...but the way PJ played, a change was a must from the get-go.

This is an entirely different situation. While not spectacular, Ponton and Williams are experienced options. As well, Aston Samuels has been showing alot of consistency..even in practices last year. If Ford starts this year, then he will have earned it...proving himself to be the best of some solid available choices. With Grothe, it was more a case of "well it can't get any worse...might as well give the kid a shot...". Fortunately, Matt has been more than up to the challenge.

Given that though...don't be surprised if Williams or Ponton start in the backfield going into Auburn. No doubt, we'll see a heavy dose of Ford...but he really needs to inspire confidence in the coaching staff in his route running and blocking before he leads us into a hostile environment...

  7. I think 10-3 is extremely realistic. Out of WVU, UL, and Auburn...there's no reason we shouldn't win at LEAST one of those games especially since we get WVU and Ul at home. If you count two losses there, you also figure that @ Rutgers and @Pitt are always tough games. Cincinatti should be a win since we've got them at home.

Elon, Syracuse, UCiF, North Carolina, UConn and FAU are all teams we are better than and "should" beat. (6-0) Go at least .500 against WVU, UL, Auburn, Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Cincinatti and we're 9-3. (If we can't go at least .500 against the tough part of our schedule, then we really haven't progressed like we should have)

If we win our bowl game, 10-3 is there for the taking. The biggest obstacle is whether we've finally gotten consistent enough to beat the teams we SHOULD.

  8. I don't mind continually being picked as a "sleeper" and "under the radar"...but my one concern is that the more ppl say it...the more unrealistic the expectations of our own growing fan base. let's face facts...the folks on this board are the exception...die hard Bulls fans. Most of the folks in our own area, alumni, and student groups still have trouble recognizing that our school plays bigtime 1-A ball and figure they'll care once we start playing the likes of their beloved gators and noles. I'd hate for our die-hards to forget that this is still an infant program and become disinterested if we fail to make the "big splash" we all hope for in the next few years. There is some danger among our own fans, based on our own success. So while it is flattering to get some respect..let's keep the perspective.

  9. UM and the city can't agree what the OB upgrades cost -- Hernandez said it's $160 million to $170 million, but UM believes it's much more. Hernandez said ''$100 million to $120 million is what we have available. [but] we haven't lost hope.'' No new meetings between UM and the city have been scheduled yet, he said.

:-? $100 million just doesn't stretch as far as it used to. The Hillsborough county taxpayers built RJS for $175 mill total about 10 years ago. It's just astounding...

  10. Maybe I'm the only one....but the more names I see come up....the more I'm liking Lon Kruger. With the exception of the Hawks fiasco (and who doesn't lose at that job?) all that guy does is build programs and win. I'd like to think he'd be interested in moving back to the sunshine state, but smazza may be right....unlv to south florida is not really a "step up" at this point. We'd have to do a great selling job...

  11. I talked to Herman tonight, haven't consulted with Rueb yet, but our caucus had a vote with Rueben being absent, and we have come out in opposition to the hiring of John Pelphrey as our next basketball coach..

I personally support Gillien at this point and Herm wants us to make a run at Matt Dougherty.

With two of the three votes in - we give a strong vote of no-confidence on the pontential selection of John Pelphrey as our next men's basketball coach.

We will be sending an e-mail to Mr. Woolard letting him know of our caucus' stance on this issue.

    Shalom.

Wow...I don't know what's more sad: 1) that there is a "caucus" of 3 people (only 2 of which are voting) 2) that they actually conduct a "no confidence vote" or 3) that someone feels it necessary to post the results. What? Are we back in kindergarten?  ;D Circle Circle do dot, now I got a cootie-shot....

Tommorrow I shall post the results of my "wanna go poopie outside?" vote with my puppy. Hope everyone cares, although it's just the two of us voting....  ::) Sad sad sad....

PS. the puppy voted yes today!
