Being trolled by McNeese State fan .......... that's one thing I find it hard to forgive Willie for.

C'mon now, the only reason didn't troll you in 2013 was because you looked a little vulnerable.   Now that you've made it 7 years without jumping off a bridge, you're fair game...

  2. He was a graduate assistant....took a HS job....then he came back as an assistant for a while but he had a chance to return to the HS he graduated from as head coach...and he took that...then he came back later to be a coordinator....then his son got a scholarship to Tennessee to play defensive back, so he took a a job at Miami of Ohio to be closer to where his son was...then the head coach got fired and he took over as interim for their bowl appearance...then went to WKU, and took over as interim for their bowl appearance....and has now come home again....

  3.

    Glad we could help. (;

Seriously, you have some real talent on your team. Now it's up to your coaches to take advantage of it and use it.

Finally, I must say that I think our DC had a point to prove to Taggert about not taking him with him to Tampa.

Lance Guidry is a hell of a fine coach and his kids played with A fire under their buts.

    Did he want to come?

Lance says that he's still good friends with Taggart and the OC...but, Lance is an incredible competitor.  Always has been, always will be...and he's a Cowboy, through and through, first as a stand-out defensive player and this is his fourth stint on the McNeese staff...

I would expect that sort of effort from him against somebody he coached with, regardless of whether or not he liked them, hated them or was somewhere in between...

He **** sure wasn't gonna give them any quarter...

And McDonalds State should have way less talent than USF... Not dissing MCS, they whooped us, but how many of their kids were given "D1" offers?

Uh, EVERY single one of them.   You ARE aware that the FCS is Division I, right??

No offense, but if you're not smart enough to understand that FCS and FBS are two subdivisions within Division I, then I'm not sure you're smart enough to have a conversation about D1 offers, etc...

Really? You're pulling the semantics card? Of course I know the difference. USF 2012 recruiting class was ranked 49th. MSC was ranked 217th. That was the point I was making.

There's only ONE way to evaluate a recruiting class....and that's to look back reflectively at what they've done when they're seniors...

Wasting time looking at third party evaluations as an indication of where your program is at is a fool's errand...

Your original post was whether or not any of the kids on our team had D-1 offers.   The answer to that is ALL OF THEM..

A few even signed with schools rated much, much higher than USF...like, say, Arkansas or LSU....but decided to continue their careers at McNeese, thus illustrating the foolishness of rating recruiting classes...

It's a nice fan diversion, but it doesn't mean squat about what happens on the field...

In all seriousness, what would you guys give to have our Tight end right now?  Or even our backup Quarterback??

Based on what you saw this weekend, would you rather have your defensive line...or ours?

Thus endeth the lesson on "recruiting class" evaluations....

  5. No offense to Grothe, who killed us in 2006, the biggest win in McNeese history was in 76, when we won the Inaugural Independence Bowl with a skeleton crew...Next would be when we went into The Rock and won against Defending National Champ Appalachian State, the year following their big Michigan win...

Arguably, the USF win was third.....but I understand that he was engaging in a little hyperbole  ; )

  7. Meant to type UCF not USF.  Anyone who was there or has season tickets would know the intent.

The point of the 400,000 is We paid too much,  (yes some pay more, but others pay less, UConn paid Towson 250,000).  Most schools win these Pay games as well.   Also in this economy and with the lack of fan base and donors( we have a small athletic budget compared to Power 5 Schools)  Its pretty sick that we cant keep the Library open for students to Use to Study due to money , yet we can piss away 400,000 for a beat down. Silly me for thinking that College was for learning first, Not FB.

    Its mismanagement at its finest.

A lot on here are defensive and ok with the status Quo, Some like my self would love nothing better than to see this program explode and get better. Why wouldn't we want to see them improve if they can?

The email distribution list and system is horrible.  The communication between the Athletic Dept and the Donors, Fans, season ticket Holders(customers) is lacking.    Not sustainable in the long run unless they make changes. Someone needs to start listening to the customers or there wont be customers in the future.

We get it , You love Doug and are completely satisfied with the Athletic office.

Towson is less than 300 miles from UConn....basically, it's a four and half hour bus ride....Georgia Southern is probably the closest FCS team to Tampa and that's roughly 400 miles....unless you get Georgia Southern, you're gonna get a team who's gonna need to fly....I doubt you'll get anybody to fly to Tampa for less than 400k.....the financial numbers just aren't there...

  8. I'm not sure what to think...This game HAD to be a fluke. Is it really possible to be THAT bad?? Think: was UL really 45-14 bad in 2005 or PITT losing to Youngstown St last year. Was Michigan really bad enough to lose to App St but by seasons end beat UF in a bowl game...I'm willing to say this was an anomaly....

App State had a very talented team when they beat MIchigan.  They had a three-year run of FCS National championships...and it all came down to a blocked fieldgoal they returned for a TD....had it not been for that, Michigan would have narrowly won...

The primary difference is depth....you have 22 more scholarships....in one of the other threads, I tried to point out that there would be places where you'd be on the short end of the measuring stick and that you definitely weren't going to be faster than us...We got several breaks and took advantage of them...but, we had some adversity too...being out of position and missing a tackle on the initial Bull TD run, we had a safety get beat deep twice and then we tossed an interception...

The score may be an anomaly, but the potential to lose to an FCS squad most definitely isn't...

  9. no its a bit high, some games as low as 250k

We've gotten 400k for all of our plane ride games....we got nearly 400k for LSU, but that's an hour and 45 minute bus ride for us....we had nearly 30k of our fans at LSU making it, at the time, the largest crowd to ever see an LSU game.    Only SEC member Ole Miss brings as many visiting fans. Bama brings a bunch of fans, but the LSU faithful come out of of the woodwork...

Using LSU's base ticket price, we more than paid our way to their place, which is why they've rescheduled us....they finally realized what we've been telling them for years.   Paying 400k to App State or The Citadel makes no sense.  If they pay us 400 k to drive down the road, they basically get the game for free....

We took the USL (Louisiana-Lafayette) game for less than that.....BUT....they'd been ducking us for 21 years (we own them in the series ) and to shut us up, they offered us a game, but only wanted to pay $125,000 for us to drive over.   We could schedule a Division II, pay them a guarantee and still make two to three times what USL offered us...so, we had to turn them down...at which point they made all sorts of noise about us "declinging" to play them....so...they made another offer in the $230k range, and gave us 10,000 tickets that we could sell and keep the profit on....so, that was too good of a deal to turn down......We beat them 38-17...but we took a knee on their 12 yard line with less than two minutes to place...the final margin was 21 points...one for each year they ducked us  ;)

  10. Lance Guidry was a former standout defensive player at McNeese and he's had other stints on our coaching staff...not really sure why he didn't go to USF, but coming back to McNeese was a good move for him.  He LOVES McNeese...and his best friends are on the staff...

He was our DC when we went to the FCS National Championship game....

If you think he gets emotional in his Bowl Game speeches...you should see him talk about being a Cowboy  ;)

The stat was not most points, it was biggest margin of victory by a FCS school over FBS.

Yes and it wasn't in the entire history, it was going back several decades. Don't know if there are records beyond that or if they stopped at that point.

I think that's only dating back to 2000, with the creation of the BCS...The stat from last night's game isn't FCS vs FBS, it's FCS vs BCS....don't quote me on this, but I think the record for most points scored by a I-AA team against a I-A team was like 63 points in a track meet game in the 90's maybe, but there was only like a three touchdown margin of victory.

I sit corrected..here's a link to the box score for Cal-State Northridge's win over Boise in 1997...it was a 40 point difference, but that was before the BCS...

Just heard on the broadcast that the DC for McNeese was CWT's DC last year at WKU.  Anyone remember how a certain John Gruden knew EXACTLY what the Raiders were running when they lost to the Bucs in the Super Bowl?

Look, I know this is not the reason we lost the game, but is does stand to reason that McNeese had a good understanding of the offensive tendencies of CWT and played to those strengths tonight.

It looked like just the opposite to me. The MSU OC being very familiar with our defense and knew what to call, when. I know we gave them a short field too many times but they had some long ass drives mixed in there, too.

multiple times with a short field, quick turnaround due to turnovers, 3 n outs and short drives = one tired ass defense. They had nearly 10 minutes more TOP. Our defense was gassed and the offense didn't help them at all.

Man, that sounds so familiar ...

That it does. We played nearly the worst possible game in terms of errors and mistakes. McNeese played a perfect game. No overcoming that. Even though I'm positive there is more talent on our team than theirs, we would have lost to Gaither if we played like we did tonight.

Not really perfect.   We had a pass intercepted, had some dropped passes, a LB getting out of position on your first offensive play, and our FS got beat on a couple of passes for TD's.   Things like that have to improve if we are going to make the playoffs and make any noise in them against teams like North Dakota St.

    Doc

Matt and Lance will get those things corrected after some film work this week....the FS getting beat like that concerns me a little....

"Fans" were off the deep end with their "emotion filled" thoughts of a 10 and 2 season.

Taggart is the right guy and it will take time.  Not this year and not next.  Short term pain, long term gain.

    Go Bulls!

Can't believe some people thought we would go 10-2. Unrealistic expectations for this team.

Still 100% behind CWT and will make us a better team. He still needs to get more of his players to use his system.

I don't remember seeing this many FBS teams lose to FCS teams in 1 weekend.

From the FCS perspective, we see it the same way.  If the national FCS message board chatter is correct, it's the best opening day weekend ever for us...8 FCS wins over FBS including three FCS over BCS wins...one ranked team and one who was expected to compete for the Big XII title.  We had four other close games where the FCS school fell by one TD or less...and several others that were relatively close or the FCS had a lead going into the fourth quarter...

There's not the talent level disparity between FCS and FBS that you guys think there is.  Granted, the LSU's and Alabamas, etc., all have talent that's out of this world...but even then a good FCS squad can come in and be competitive.   Ergo McNeese taking two leads on LSU in 2010 and Georgia Southern rushing for more than 300 yards against Alabama's defense...Heck, in 2001, we went to Miami when they had 17 first round draft choices scattered through three classes and we scored first and put up more than 400 yards of total offense...granted, they still killed us, but they killed EVERYBODY that year...

In the end, your superior depth with 22 more scholarships is generally what does us in...particularly in the fourth quarter...

We beat Middle Tennessee pretty handily last year and they went on to an 8-4 season with quality wins, including one over Georgia Tech...

Would love to see some "plaque" themed costumes.

Maybe some t-shirts with this on them ....

    Or the gum disease "Gingavitis"

If you going to go that route, go all out and go with A.N.U.G.

    Hint:   Google is your friend.

    Doc

Going all Dentist on them, eh Doc?

  16.

Doc is unquestionably the greatest sanbagger on any sports message board, ever!   Even if he thinks we're gonna beat the hell outta somebody, he'll point out how mismatched and outgunned we are...

There's only ONE team, ever, that I've seen him deviate from his formula for.....The USL Ragin Cajuns   ;)

How can you sandbag the Cajun Fans when down deep in their hearts they know everytime they finally give us a game, we are going to crush them.    ;)

But I'm being honest with these guys.   They have far much more talent than our little ole' FCS team.

    Doc

I hear ya.....USL fans are an entirely different subspecies.  I think the scientific name is Homo Rectalencephalous or something like that.  Basically, they've got their heads up their rectums...

But, I must say that I find myself forced to agree with you on this weeks's game.  I read somewhere else that we're in the bottom half of the FCS now....

Hopefully, we'll have a respectable showing and stop the free fall...

  17.

    Sheee-iit Doc....

I think ah may have head that befoah....Ah think we problee gonnah be as green as grasss this yeah....Graduation left the cubbahd bare.  Worse than even ole' Mothah Hubbahd...

    You follow me?

    Exactly.    :D

    Doc

P.S.  Seeing you here, Jay, reminds me of something I've been wanting to do but keep forgetting   It will happen this afternoon.

    Doc,

THANK YOU!  You ROCK!   I saw where you and the Mrs. donated pretty heavily to Billy's ride earlier in the year, so this comes as a complete surprise!    Thanks for the continued support!    Your donation gives me a $2.00 lead over the the guy that's won the thing the last two years!   Billy's holding down 4th...which I think is pretty damned amazing.  Two of us from SW La., totally kickin ass on the fundraising in Atlanta! ;)...I'd like see him climb back up a couple of notches and get on the podium this year!

Seriously, thanks again!  You've been one of my biggest contributors every year I've done this!

  18.

I hope we'll be able to hang 40+ on them, but we're an unproven product with weaknesses until we show otherwise. McNeese should be a good game to shake things down. At our worst, we're still not MTSU.

    1. USF

    2. 34-13

    3. Pierre

    4. Andre

Well, I would say last year were some of yalls worst days. 3 wins with best "quality" against Nevada. MT finished with 9 wins and their best "quality" win against Georgia Tech. Sorry, Yall have a ways to get back to were yall were 4-5 years ago. McNeese was a shell of what it was at the end of the season last year. When we are healthy we can play with any mid major or lower BCS conference team. Can't get much healthier than first game. Yall better not look past us. Good luck!

I'm having a hard time believing that you're a true McNeese fan.  The fact that you managed to transplant your Texas/Louisiana-like southern drawal into actual typographical speech leads me to believe that you could be a double-agent.

Well, McNeese has an incredible creative writing department.  One year,  we claimed two Pulitzers. One by a faculty member and another by a former student...

We're rather like Bush 43.  We write well, but you probably won't be able to understand a single word we say...

Fortunately, we're great with hand gestures....

I don't know enough about this year's squad to venture a guess as to how we'll do.  If we're healthy, I think you'll be surprised at what we're able to do with 63 scholarships.  The kid who starts at QB for us walked into Tiger Stadium as a true freshman, drove us down the field and threw a touchdown strike to silence 93,000 LSU fans and put us up 7-0 in his first collegiate start.  After LSU tied it up, he drove us back down the field and we took another lead on a fieldgoal, so...I'm thinking that he's not really gonna get rattled by the crowd in Tampa...

Athletically, we'll match up well with you.  In some cases, you'll be on the short end of the measuring stick.  On balance, I think we're probably going to be a little faster than you guys are.  We'll be smaller in some places, but... the key is going to be how we handle depth and injuries....

in other words--- their kicker is tall

    Exactly!
