  1. Howie, don't waste too much time on UCFK85. He's a fugitive from the "other" board who let the Kanigits' Liberty University-like success last year go to his head ........

If you view entering the NCAA tournament as conference champions as a "negative", than I'd hate to try to please you.

Secondly, I'm just talking about how idiotic the coaches poll is.  Stetson has E.J. Gordon, and that is it.  Ga State and UCF are heads above Stetson.

I'm simply laughing at some of your guy's attempts to justify as Stetson as a major conference conteder to say "Look, we beat the best the A Sun has to offer".  Obviously the A Sun is nothing spectacular, which is why we are leaving.  However, you do not play UCF, Ga State, Belmont, or Troy so you can't claim you've beat the best of the A Sun.

  2. 28 pt win over a preseason coaches prediction to go to the dance.  I don't care what conference it is... every conference has at least one decent team, and we slaughtered them, and shut down their leading scorer, a-sun player of the year candidate.

Whoever made that prediction is on crack.  Stetson may not even make the tourny.  UCF and Georgia State will battle for the conference title.

E.J. Gordon is a decent player but nothing to write home about.

  3. Well, they've hit a good time to make up ground.  They play the pretty bad Toronto Blue Jays next.  If they can pull just 2 of 3 from them, they'll be sitting nice when they return home to the Marlins.

The D-Rays need to be consistent though.  They can't win 14 straight then drop 16 of their next 20, like they did earlier this year.

  4. Is there hope?  As we've seen recently, our lineup can score runs, and we have some great young talent.  All we need now is pitching.  Lately, our pitching has been pretty good, but at the beginning of the season it's been horrible.

So, will the D-Rays find the pitching combination needed to be successful?  There would be nothing greater than the D-Rays makin the playoffs.

Let's just hope we never see a Cardinal-Rays world series, since I don't know who I'd root for.

  5. You know, if they didn't have that other "streak" where they went 3-19, maybe they'd be pressing the Red Sox right now for 2nd place.  However, playoff caliber teams do not have stretches where they go 3-19.

I'm impressed by what they're doing now, however, I am not getting excited yet.  They're beating mediocre NL teams.  We'll see if they can keep consistently winning when we get back to AL play.

My bet is that after this win streak is done, they have another spell where they go 4-13 or something.

  6. Every thing I read had Rays in last again. The rays have finished last every year in the east since they started playing ball and this year will be no different.  They have some great young players but no pitching at all.  Toronto has a very good team and Baltimore just added a ton of payroll.  NY and BOS are definately the top two teams.

I think their pitching will be ok enough to get them out of the cellar.  They have a loaded, young lineup and it will produce alot of runs.  Lets put it this way- if they finish in last this year, then they may NEVER get out of the cellar, or make any kind of dent in the win column.

  7. Guys, come on.  Be realistic. The D Rays will be lucky to get out of the cellar.  They have good hitting, but they have no pitching whatsoever, and their team is so young.

They also play in arguably the best divison of baseball.

Heres my pre-season prediction of teams in the East-

    1. Red Sox

    2. Yankees

    3.  Orioles

    4. Blue Jays

    5. D Rays

If the D Rays can find 2 starting pitchers get hot this year, they might finish ahead of the Blue Jays.  But I doubt it.
