  3. Furman 126

    Virginia Intermont....33

Not only was this a game between a Division I school and an NAIA Division II school....it was a game featuring a *bad* NAIA D-II school....VA-Intermont is now 0-13.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Eric Webb scored 27 points and Furman set records for 3-pointers and margin of victory in a 126-33 victory over Virginia Intermont on Wednesday night.

The Paladins (7-4) made 21 3-pointers, surpassing the previous mark of 14 against Davidson last season. The 93-point margin topped an 87-point victory over The Citadel in 1955.

Webb, who had eight 3-pointers, led five Paladins in double figures. George Brozos scored 20 points, Robby Bostain and Quan Prowell each had 17 and Tony Carter added 12.

Chris Wise scored 14 points to lead the NAIA Division II Cobras (0-13).

Furman scored the game's first 16 points and went ahead by 33 midway through the first half. The Paladins led 69-8 at halftime.

Furman shot 70 percent (49-of-70) from the field goals, while Virginia Intermont hit 30 percent (12-of-40).

The win was gave coach Larry Davis a 100-117 record in eight seasons.

Memphis accepted an invitation to the GMAC Bowl

Their opponent, a representative of the Mid-America Conference, will be announced later this week. GMAC Bowl selection committee chairman Murray Cape said four MAC teams -- Toledo, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Miami of Ohio -- are possible opponents.

    Southern Miss to New Orleans

The Golden Eagles will face Sun Belt Conference champion North Texas in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 14.

    Cincinnati to Fort Worth

The bowl, played on Dec. 23, is one of five affiliated with Conference USA. A Big 12 team normally would get the other invitation, but the bowl-eligible schools have locked up bids already.

Bowl officials are negotiating with the Atlantic Coast, Big East and Mid-American conferences for another opponent.

    UAB to Hawaii

UAB (7-4, 5-3 Conference USA), will meet an opponent still to be determined.

and of course, Louisville to the Liberty Bowl

  6. 79 Bull: I don't think the Hawaii Bowl ought to hold a grudge on inviting Cincinnati back, especially if u believe that Hawaii won't be bowl eligible anyways (they're at home, yes, but their last two games are vs. Northwestern and Michigan State)

JimUSFSig: That could be. It just looked like the matchups for the MPC Comp. Bowl had 87 different possibilities.

In the 7 predictions I saw the matchups there were...

    UTEP vs. Akron

    Cincinnati vs. Troy

    Pittsburgh vs. Troy

    Cincinnati vs. Marshall

    UTEP vs. Georgia Tech

    UTEP vs. Georgia Tech

    Toledo vs. Georgia Tech

with a roughly equal number slotting UTEP for Hawaii

so UTEP vs. GA Tech seems kinda popular as well

  7. I looked at foxsports.com/CFN, ESPN, CNNSi, and CBS Sportsline to try and put together a list of where the "experts" generally think teams are going. It starts getting murky once you get into some of the smaller bowls, but here goes.

    Orange Bowl: USC vs. Oklahoma

    Sugar Bowl: Auburn vs. Miami

    Fiesta Bowl: BC vs. Utah

    Rose Bowl: Michigan vs. Cal

Capital One Bowl: Iowa vs. Tennessee

Gator Bowl: Florida State vs. West Virginia

    Cotton Bowl: Texas vs. LSU

    Outback Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Georgia

Peach Bowl: Florida vs. Virginia Tech

Liberty Bowl: Louisville vs. Boise State

Sun Bowl: Oregon State vs. Purdue

Music City Bowl: Alabama vs. Northwestern

Silicon Valley Football Classic: Fresno State vs. NIU

Holiday Bowl: Arizona State vs. Texas A&M

    Emerald Bowl: Navy vs. Wyoming

Tire Bowl: UConn vs. North Carolina

Alamo Bowl: Ohio State vs. Oklahoma State

Houston Bowl: Texas Tech vs. Pittsburgh

Insight Bowl: UCLA vs. Notre Dame

Independence Bowl: Iowa State vs. Toledo

Motor City Bowl: Miami U. vs. Minnesota

MPC Computers Bowl: Troy State vs. Marshall? Southern Miss? (most pundits think TCU will go to Fort Worth, so all C-USA slots would be filled if Southern Miss became eligible, shipping them elsewhere. I don't know that Southern Miss will become eligible anyways...they won't beat California, and UAB is no gimme either. MAC teams are being spread all over, and Marshall is more appealing than Akron probably.)

Hawaii Bowl: UTEP vs. Cincinnati (people were kind of split between UAB and Cincinnati, but it would make more geographic sense for UAB to play North Texas in New Orleans and be somewhat close to a bowl. Cincinnati isn't really close to either bowl)

Las Vegas Bowl: New Mexico vs. Georgia Tech.

Fort Worth Bowl: TCU vs. Colorado

GMAC Bowl: Bowling Green vs. Memphis

Champs Sports Bowl: Virginia vs. Nebraska

New Orleans Bowl: North Texas vs. UAB
