  1. Jebus Tap Dancing X-mas.

Some of you people are very high and mighty as if you never committed a sin.  If you are such a holy roller bible thumper, then you should have gone to a religious-oriented school, such as St. Leo.

It is a stupid charge, and I cannot believe the police do not have better crimes to chase than this.

This happens all the time to bartenders, whether they are 20 years old, 30 years old, or older.  The alcohol sting squads love to do this when an establishment is busy, and they alway catch a bartender when they are not paying attention.  Of course that is questionable when the Bull Ring is involved; I hear that they have little to zero business.

Why is Leavitt being aloof?  Why should he tell the press anything?  Why arm the press and/or the district attorney with evidence to use against one of his players?

If I was Grothe's lawyer I would advise him, the coaching staff, and everyone on the team to respond with "no comment" or "talk to my lawyer".

    good advice hightech

cops must  have no work to do

Cops must have no work to do?  like enforcing laws?  This comment is on a level of stupid so high it would take a space shuttle to reach it.  Just like most of your comments, you are too smart for a remark like this.  Surely you know how most young people have problems with irresponsible behavior , made even worse by the consumption of alchohol.  Have any friends in the insurance industry?  Well probably not since you sue them all the time... lol.. but you know the stats.   Don't even comment on cops if this in the best you can do, stick with the donut insults..  :)

  2. not sure how you can turn this against MADD. It is a bartenders job to check the patrons i.d. If they didnt do these types of stings then bars would serve to every 18 yr old in the county with no fear of reprecussions. Until you form a lobby movement to change the legal drinking age to 18, it is 21. MADD is a great organization with a worthy cause.

MADD uses fear tactics to fiat laws on states. MADD is the reason the drinking age is 21. MADD is the reason the margin for DUI went from .15, to .12, to .10, to .08 in every state. MADD is singlehandedly ripping the rights of states to decide their own laws away from them.

I agree that fighting drunk driving is a good thing, but MADD uses tactics of federalism and fear to mandate laws to states, blackmailing them into passing absurd laws in order to keep their access to federal highway funding.

Wow.  You have some issues my friend.  Actually, the reason the DUI laws in the states dropped was because the children of those in MADD were being slaughtered by those with a .15 BAC, .12 BAC, .10 BAC, and .08 BAC.  MADD used thier RIGHT (as you seem to like to throw that word around) to lobby the legislatures and citizens of these states and people like YOU voted in support of those laws and leaders.  That is how is country works.  If you want the legal BAC back at .15 you should do what they did.  My feelings though are that you are with about 1 percent of this country.

Wow. a gimpy knight making sense....   ;)

  3. They do this at every bar in Tampa. Believe it or not, Matt Grothe is not some kind of celebrity around this town. He might be to USF football fans, but that's a small percentage of the community as a whole.

I assure you, the state agencies do stings at every bar in the area, as does the Hillsborough Sheriff's Department. This had nothing to do with anything but Matt Grothe breaking the first law of bartending.

If you don't like that law enforcement agencies enforce the law, perhaps you ought to try and get it changed, or at least strip some of the power from the organization that pushes for these investigations: MADD.

I said nothing about not liking that the agencies enforce the law, but you cannot sit there and tell me straight-faced that the goverment doesn't make some amount of effort to conduct "high-profile" arrests. It's their way of getting the most "bang for the buck". (ie who cares of Joe Nobody is arrested, but Matt Grothe?)  Ok, here I am straight-faced telling you that they didn't know or care who he was, this was just business as usual for the agency investigating businesses serving underaged person(s).  This enforcement effort saves lives believe it or not.  Underaged drinkers are involved in fatal crashes twice their numbers in the general driving public.

I don't doubt that the agency does conduct other arrests, but you make it sound as if there is a huge dragnet of arrests in the area and Matt was picked up as part of a larger operation.  I don't think this was the case (unless you have proof?)  Since YOU are making the accusation don't you think you should be the one coming up with proof that he was targeted?

And believe me, as a Libertarian, I'm not fan of "victimless crimes," so I think the charges are bogus anyway. Perhaps there are some MADD lobbyists partially to blame, but mostly we can thank those politicians who believe they can "legislate morality".  It is not about morality, it is about dangerous behavior, see comment above. You have to think these things through to the consequences of the behavior of serving underaged persons.  Are you ok with say a 14 year old girl being served booze all night at a bar?  "victimless"?  what could happen right?  MADD is responsible for saving tens of thousands of lives in the past 25 years, but don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

The bottom line is that I'm glad this happened.  It was relatively minor, and it teaches Matt (and other members of the team hopefully) the amount of scrutiny they're under, so hopefully they may avoid similar (more major) mistakes in the future.

I agree totally with this statement, I wish that Grothe never got in trouble this way, He is a great person on the field and from what I hear in his personal life as well.  We all make mistakes.  He will do great things in the future and this is just a small bump in the road.
  4. did his aunt sign?

Yes and she has 4 years of eligibility!!!   ;D

She has good range going sideline to sideline and delivers hits with BAD intentions.  She is just a step slow when falling back into pass coverage but reacts well to the ball when it is in the air.  Word is tight ends tremble when they have to go into the middle on 3rd and short situations.  With her 4.5 speed she can meet the running back at the line after she sheds off the blocking lineman to prevent extra yards after contact.  Good news is that she has a steller GPA so there should be no qualifying problems.  Bad news is the girl luvs to party and has been known to organize Ybor trips and quilting bees that last into the wee hours..   Good leader on the field though....  Auntie has what cha call "da intangibles"..

    ;D

  5. When a local recruit signs out of state:  USF will never compete/win the big east if CJL lets these players get away.....or ...   why wouldn't he to to (miami/fsu/uof)? he would just sit on the bench here...

When USF signs a player:  There is no chance of this guy qualifying... CJL keeps making the same mistakes and expecting different results....  or ......  Why are we recruiting in this area?... we need more XXX players that can make an immediate impact...

Just thought I would save all some time as smazza's post are almost (always) some variation of the above..   LOL!    :D :D :D

  6. sure

    from saban to leavitt

What an envious, pathetic little man u are.  You are so filled with hate and jealousy you cannot see what a good coach we have or how others may value him when you don't.  But then again, what do you know about ANYTHING hmmmmm?   Sad sad sad.  To be invested in failure so much you even root against your own school's recruiting efforts and get suspended from the board.  Sigh, well I usually would just ignore your sniping from the sidelines but had some free time to note this and spout off, thanks for reading.  Hope you learn to enjoy life and be an optimist some day.

  7. Leavitt has really been working on instilling better discipline in the program.  Now, if that could just distill down into the number of flags we're getting per game...

not sure this will translate to less penalties and bone head moves on field ( I think CJL was trying to have less bone headed moves OFF the field by making this move, DUH!)

these guys must have failed a drug test and leavitt's hand was forced (Nice speculation lawyer boy, where did you pull this one out of?)

leavitt isnt the great disciplinarian even though he has a nice size dog house if you get him mad (already been commented on as contradicting yourself in one sentence!, You just LOVE to take shots at the Coach don't cha? Have much ENVY?)

where would you get idea leavitt is trying to instill better discipline? Hmmm... by the fact that this is what a coach does when someone breaks team rules? Even if they are a starter?  You are a sad, sad little man.  You really bring a lot to this discussion board....   ::) ::) ::)

  8. To be fair they referred to "putting a hit on him"...   not necessarily injuring him, could just mean to stop him from ripping up Pitt.

The really wrong thing is the comparison of alleged "criminals".   UCF has ZERO room to talk in this area (and the thing is, they KNOW this).   WHO has made the national news lately with hot dog insertions into pledges? hmmm?

I love the USF fan smack downs in the rest of the thread though....    SNAP!

  9. Hey guys, you don't get it... this is smazza.. the most negative poster on the BULLS.   Gotza keep up appearances!!    lol.   Have to skew the info to take a shot at the coach!  its a lawyer thing!   skew info to pull the wool over the dupes eyes!  and then u too can act like an expert.  It is compensation for other shortcomings    ;D ;D ;D

  10. Nice to get the love and I think this in a trend we will see expand throughout the media and "espn" world in the next few years.  The respect will grow as well the awareness, heck they may even stop calling us "Southern Florida" !!   ;D   But first thing first of course, got to take care o' bizness in cincy.   The Pitt home game should be 40K + butts in the seats though!

  11. Actually I think that shutting down the football program for the remainder of the season is exactly what is needed to send the message this is not accepted.  But you are dealing with $$$ and a former Clinton cabinet member as president of the "U of Miami" so don't hold yer breath for any accountability for bad behavior.

And yes, I do walk around carrying a gun every morning at 0630...    ;D ;D

  12. if you want to pay  me 350 an our to go thru rosters to give you names i would be happy to do so

look at usf's performance on the field and one can see that usf is lacking 1a talent as evidence by poor performance against better  1ateams

hmmm... I have time for 40,000 posts but not enough to back up negative comments without any foundation unless you pay me...    smazza= the evil within

  13. voss will not be comimg to usf to sit for 3 years

he is better of going to ftu/ou/oc where he has a chance to start all 4 years

Don't you see what smazza is trying to do here?  If he can convince Voss that it is not worth his signing with USF then he can keep on making comments about how CJL can't recruit good prospects and is not a good coach, etc...   He would rather be able to say "I told you so" then to have any success come our way..   This post alone should be enough to put him in the "bullpen" for a month or so as a suspension.  Another way of putting it is if you don't have anything positive to say....    :-X  :-X  :-X when it comes to recruits or prospects!

  14. DON'T BRING ANY BOTTLES!  You will be made to pour them out and remove the emptys from the parking lot. Not a problem if you only have a couple and pour them into cups right there and then have to remove the bottles from the parking area, but a hassle.  If it is a case.... then what a waste of good beer!  Kegs will be confiscated!  I hope everyone just follows the rules and has a good time, no fights, nobody getting hurt, and the BULLS WIN!
