We're on the WEST coast of Florida. Absolutely MUST HAVE a good West Coast IPA... Not the hazy grapefruit stuff. 2¢

A nice Hoppy beer, perhaps a Jayden Reid IPA. They can even do a nod to Coach Golesh roots and do a Golesh Russian Imperial Stout. Lots of fun to be had.

It would be great if they saved space for a retail front to help the USF Hospitality (Tampa) and Brewing Arts (from St. Pete Campus) programs.  A microbrewery would be awesome!

For the Brewing Arts, saying this completely obviously to the program, but I would imagine they focus on small batch brewing. Having a place to "dispose" of the beer will be a great opportunity to modify recipes from small to large batches. Win Win for everyone. A nice Golden Bull Lager, or a South Florida Weisse, or even a Judy Genshaft Gose, for those still salty about her tenure.

these kids are professional athletes now. Lets stop pretending they are "Student" Athletes. NIL is ruining College sports. Kids deserved to be able to get paid something. Max should have been some sort of reasonable number, maybe 50k. but to just have these kids jump to a new school or demand more money from their current school is a joke.

Lots of discussion lately on how this is ruining college sports and not whats best for college sports. But whats best for the college athlete?  I see the change being made that all college athletes will be employees of the NCAA and receive a base salary. With that, legally they will be able to fold in employment contracts and restrictions, mimicking what we saw before. Players will still be able to receive NIL money but will have restrictions on transferring, due to the employment contract.

At minimum you could of had him rush every punt or field goal. At 6'9 with a decent vertical, he could have blocked a few.

If I recall correctly, he was the athlete that joined practice and blocked a couple of field goals in a row. CJS was excited how a basketball player with zero football experience could walk on like that and block field goals...I was saying to myself, what does it say about the football team when a basketball player can just walk onto the field and start blocking field goals...

The good news is we finally have leadership on campus that prioritizes athletics and a coach that is aggressive that can coach players up.

It is well known that Judy prioritized academics. She is the one that set the foundation for USF joining the AAU. Part of me does have to chuckle...faulting a college president for prioritizing academics over football...Go bulls!

  6. He wrote, "I have decided to Declare for the 2024 NBA Draft! I will also be entering my name into the transfer portal, keeping my remaining year of eligibility"

Anyone with a little more insight on this that can chime in? I don't believe this is an option for football, is this just an option for basketball? Ability to declare for the draft and keep your college eligibility, if you enter the portal while doing so?

  7. I can speak to the sports accounting. A fellow work colleague has a few clients who are, coaches, and trainers for MLB teams. To say it's tedious is an understatement. Florida does not have a state income tax, but other states do. So when a Florida base team plays in a state that has a state income tax, the portion of the salary that was earned by playing in that state for "x" amount of days does qualify for that state's income tax. But with that said, there's one plus for USF, no state income tax on NIL deals ;)

  8. We are at the point where we are seeing the big swings in the pendulum in both directions. One swing was the years the NCAA had total control of players, money, etc...Now it has swung with the NIL and players having some power with the ability to transfer. It will find its equilibrium... eventually...First hurdle, are they student-athletes or employees? With professional sports, they don't sign every player to "year-to-year" agreements or contracts like they do in college. As a result, teams have stability and a general idea of when athletes will be moving on.

Got three tickets, however they are not showing up in my upcoming events and the link to request tickets is now having technically difficulties. Did snag a screen shot of the confirmation before navigating out.

Figured it out. Tickets are not showing on TicketMaster, they are in the "my tickets" section of the USF app.

Heard people are selling spring game tickets on FB. That’s BULL🎁💩!

I've been seeing that all over social media as well. Up until yesterday, I thought I missed the opportunity to request tickets. Out of curiosity, did season ticket holders get first dibs at tickets or are there not any tickets in circulation yet to sell?

  11. First time I brought my 5 year old to a game I pointed to Pryor and told my son "look, thats you out on the court". My little guy is projected to be roughly the same height as Pryor is, bleached blonde hair, etc..Every time he's watching the game, first thing he says is "daddy, look, it's me" when he sees Pryor.  He is playing tee ball now, never picked up a basketball but tells everyone that basketball is his favorite sport. Pryor giving hope for all the awkwardly tall kids out there ;)

  12. Tradition and history. Thats the tangible aspect that can not be built into the first on campus stadium for a football program that is less then 30 years old. This is going to take time, it will come with wins and losses. Could have , should have, would have, is always a fun discussion that leads to nothing, as we will never know what could have happened. What the nation is seeing is a University that is making an investment in football, just like every other university with a power program once did themselves. This stadium is being built on the grounds where a trailer stood that held the coaches office...USF will be playing catchup for some time, thats what happens when you have a 27 year old program. Every program and stadium had to start somewhere. Take a look at what ben hill griffin stadium, doak campbell stadium first looked like when they opened. When you look go to those stadiums now, you can feel the history and its about darn time USF starts making their own history.

I don't know if it was 20K, but it was definitely north of 12K and it was a very loud, rowdy USF crowd that came through on the broadcast.

We did a lot of that back then. I distinctly remember talking to some Auburn fans the night before our game up there where they were like "USF? Are you guys the ones in Orlando?" They were a nice enough host crowd, but that was probably largely because they thought they were gonna run us out of Jordan-Hare.

They were a great host crowd. Doing shots of moonshine with the locals, making sure we had a place to stay, and invites to parties after the game. The tone did change slightly after we won but overall they were still great.

It's turning into a pro league, but it's more like major league baseball than the NFL.  At least the NFL has things in place like salary caps to keep parity in the league.  College football is turning more into the major league baseball model where the more money you have, the better team you can buy...and any new player that has great success at a lower level team is sure to be gone (off to one of the rich teams) the following year.

USF may become the Tampa Bay Rays of NCAA Football. Small market team that has to find and develop talent. You will have them for "x" amount of years before they hit free agency or transfer. Both teams cant compete with the big stars in free agency or recruitment. USF may become a farm team for other programs, but at the same time, we are getting talent, developing talent and able to compete.

  15. We started to see pushback from Cable Providers as well. That was the main sticking point between Charter Spectrum and Disney. Charter was upset that they were essentially subsidizing cable networks to develop  their streaming platforms, such as Disney, and their customers not having access to the streaming content. As part of the new deal " Spectrum TV Select customers will have access to the ad-supported tier for Disney+, while Spectrum TV Select Plus customers will also gain access to ESPN Plus—and (eventually) the standalone ESPN streaming service that Disney has been planning".  It's hard keeping track of what games I can watch and where...and let's not forget the occasional "blackout". I forgot which game it was from a couple of years ago but I was ready to watch USF Football on ESPN Plus, only to find out it was on Balley Sports and blacked out on ESPN PLus "for local markets".  Hopefully, we will start to see an integrated system. Another factor will be internet and cell phone providers offering free services. For example, with T-Mobile I currently have MLB/MLS network, Netflix, and soon Hulu "with adds" for free. O brave new world.

Disney and Charter’s carriage fee clash is a landmark moment: A new deal includes Disney+ and ESPN subscriptions for the linear TV service’s customers.

  16. OCS should be a great anchor point for restaurants and bars in the community.  Zydeco opening up in MOSI is a major plus and great timing for them. I hope to see more breweries follow but it's a pretty expensive area for them.  I know we have been hearing this for a while but the redevelopment of University Mall into "UpTown" should be a great addition.  The mixture of professional space, medical facilities, and research labs along with entertainment areas, restaurants, and some nightlife...we have ample opportunities.
