I wish I could be this bad at a job and keep getting hired. He'll disappear for awhile and resurface at a smaller school and still get paid mid-six figures.

they're rumored to be after Scott Drew with May as their backup plan. He's also near the top of Michigan's list reportedly
Some local Louisville sports radio host said to "get familiar" with Dusty May. I only know this b/c it was on r/collegebasketball
So maybe they've shifted to May???

Sounds like CAAR wants to bury UCF so much so that it would end up being a running clock in the second half if it were a rec league game. He really didn't give a s#!t if they took his words as a slight. That was some OG stuff right there

Yeah, being on the plus is kind of adding insult to injury.
Is there a big Cornhole tourney on that night or something?
Ivy League Water Polo conference game.

For a tournament that's not a JV trophy you would think it wouldn't have to be on the subscription required streaming platform. That it would just be on one of the many ESPN family of networks.

I think some people are missing the point of NIT declines.
1. With how the transfer portal works now, it actually can be beneficial to decline the invite b/c you get a jump on the teams in the tournament and if the goal is to make the tournament, then you need to upgrade where needed. It's not always about the team declining due to "sour grapes."
2. Everyone **** on UNC last year saying they were "arrogant" for declining, but it gave them a jump on the portal and look at them this season. Are we UNC? Absolutely not, but it doesn't mean we can just overlook any competitive advantage we can get for next season. If it means opting out of a secondary tournament that generates little interest, then so be it.
3. At the end of the day, all the "good sports" can argue "it's more games," "It's a chance to compete", etc. The tournament is looked on as a JV trophy and most guys at this level don't really get "amped up" to play for a JV trophy and save the "The best way to show them we deserved to be in it, is to go win the NIT." Cause those who have the power to make those determinations don't care and aren't thinking "You know, USF really proved us wrong by going and winning that tournament."
Support the team no matter what, but let's not act like if we play or don't play that the NIT is going to have much of an impact, if any, on next season. This isn't thirty years ago, it's a new era in college sports, whether we like it or not and championships matter to these kids. Not consolation games.

"He's gonna cramp with this tempo, this ain't the same old South Florida. You better get them electrolytes ready" **** gave me chills

If we played them close, a game like this always comes down to depth. Alabama can go 2-3 deep at every position. We can't match that right now. Hoping the boys look good and hoping they don't let the game get away from them. National audience, no one expects us to win & that's what makes it fun. If we lose, everyone expected it anyway. So if we go out, execute, play smart and don't be a prisoner of the moment and let the magnitude of the opponent get to us, we can come out looking really good this Saturday and that's all I'm hoping for.

I couldn't disagree more. GSU doesn't give you the Atlanta market. Georgia Tech and Georgia are the kings in that market and except for alum and students no one cares about GSU. Adding these big metro teams like Rice, and Charlotte is where the AAC went wrong in my opinion.
If we don't add any West Coast teams ( and I still think that should be the focus) we should look to Army, Appalachian State, and Marshall in that order. Other teams to consider if they can have some sustained success are Coastal Carolina and Liberty.
I agree, we gotta get over this "big market" ********. It's a factor for pro sports, but college sports aren't dominated by the urban metro areas. Otherwise NYC would be a HUGE recruiting ground in CFB. If we keep looking to add schools in "big cities" this conference is going to be even worse. It's like we're trying to convince ourselves that having the "Charlotte" market is gonna benefit the conference as a whole.

Those 25 million aren't going anywhere even if ESPN was $30 a month as a standalone. If they didn't gain a single subscriber (which I doubt would be the case given the immense amount of content that they carry) they would generate $9 billion annually. They are going to reach the point soon where the carriage fees are a wash with what they can garner with direct streaming. The option to package Flagship with Disney+ and Hulu Live still exists (they will have to buy NBC out of Hulu by the beginning of 2025 anyways). The point being, ESPN is going to be fine in the immediate future.
Here is an interesting read on the subject:It’s About to Get Incredibly Expensive to Watch Sports
NYMAG.COMCable TV was the worst way to follow your favorite team, except for every other way.Interesting read, but I don't think it'll be quite as drastic as he's making it. The NFL is King. They've got to that point by access. Sure there is TNF on Amazon, but that is one game per week & major sports leagues and conferences would be stupid to enter deals where access is limited, significantly, to a wider audience. We wouldn't be seeing these conferences have so much shake-up if they wanted to start limiting access. MSG+ is niche, so they are going to charge a higher rate knowing that the subscriber base will be lower. Major broadcast networks aren't gonna go to a $30-$40 month price point - if they did, they'd be incredibly stupid to do so. They won't make the lost revenue up.

The idea that Charlotte is a better add then Appalachian State, because Charlotte is in a big metro area I think was mistaken. Our schedule this year would be more attractive with App State instead of Charlotte. No one in the Charlotte or in the Carolinas cares about Charlotte football.
I guess you didn't pick up the sarcasm in my post lol

You need 5 wins now to make a bowl game. About 70 teams a year make it to a Bowl game. Doesn't make them a quality add.
Look at teams like Marshall, WKU, and Appalachian State, and they have a much better record then North Texas, Charlotte, and Rice.
Our conference should not be this bad.
Yeah, but metro areas and market size

Be patient. This is far from over. The ACC or BIG12 will both be courting us at some point AND/OR the PAC2 will join the AAC/MWC or whatever. No matter how you slice it this is not done and we are too valuable a TV market and a high quality institution to be left behind forever. It is very dynamic.
Yeah, that decade will go by fast. Then we can join a watered down ACC. I'm gonna go crack a warm beer to celebrate.

I'm not smart enough to know what the Athletic Department should be doing, but at this point - regardless of broadcast deals, I do think the AAC is so watered down it's hurting us. I'd like to see us just "burn our boats". Take that "Anybody, anytime, anywhere" attitude and go it alone and just try an raise our profile by playing the best programs. I know it's probably an awful idea, but I just feel like the conference is actually an anchor now. The only other option, IMVHO, would be to absolutely DOMINATE the conference and play tough OOC opponents.

This whole thing is a total **** show. We can't control much of anything, but I found this quote from a former HC at a bad FBS program that they turned around and I love the perspective it provides.
"You have to understand that the field may not be equal from a lot of different standpoints—resources, facilities, support, fan support—but all those things, if you let them filter in, you lose sight of your focus. Our focus has always been that we’re gonna be the standard, we’re gonna do what we do and do it as well as anyone does it, and we’re not gonna have any excuses or comparisons along the way. That’s our motto: no excuses, no comparisons, and no compromises."
All we can do, in our position, is continue to support the program and CAG and hope we can get a turnaround sooner, rather than later. I just wish the realignment carousel would stop and get settled so we can move forward with whatever comes next.

Championships aren't won by avoiding the best. At some point you have to face the best out there. Can never get behind the idea of trying to avoid a team to a championship. If you're the best, it doesn't matter who is in front of you.

Wow, this board is fast lol. Was signing on to ask if everyone is ready to move on from Brian Gregory, but I guess we have a consensus!
