Amazing performance by The Bulls men’s soccer team in the first round of NCAAs vs Hofstra. Watched with my fiancé, a Hofstra alum and won myself a bet of a batch of freshly baking cookies baby! And more importantly enjoyed watching a USF game of any kind for the first time in awhile. Next up top seed Kentucky on Sunday, let’s do the dang thing family!!!

Looks like The Jim is making the rounds at his old stamping grounds too, so he’s making his presence felt. He must at least be interested in having a conversation. Is MK?…

Mullen was a “bad recruiter” in a cut throat SEC landscape at a school looking for five stars all the time. He did fine at an also-ran lower SEC school. The step down into our G5 landscape with his background would be a lot better fit. Plus, I worked at a university with one of his offensive OCs at Miss St, and he told me the dude is hardcore and a great leader very much in the Leavitt mold. Only drawback would be he’d be a rental. He’d jump at the next best job. But I bet he could turn this existing team into an AAC contender as is, needless to say with some time. But at least he’d get us back on track by 2023 rather than the dreaded Three Year Plan.

I’m a realist, I know Jim might not be the best idea. But he’s the only guy on this list with USF (and Pepsi and chocolate milk) pumping through his blood. If you want a change from Scott — who wandered around disconnected from interacting with players, staff, really anyone outside the intern who ran him Gatorade bottles — to a guy who will bring a fanbase level passion into every single thing he did regarding USF, that’s Jim. Did this host really completely whiff on the first chance to pose the “would you consider going back” question to The Jim?!?! What a clown. I’ll tell you what though, the old man sounds as in-the-know and jacked as ever. Would be a shame if he didn’t at least get a call. Only two kinds of coaches have ever had success here: a program builder and an up and coming  young HC, and The Jim broke the mold. They say you can’t go back home again, but considering our situation, you might want to try. NO ONE loves this program more than CJL. Could see a winner in FCS as I previously mentioned, the Coastal guy, Deion or Herman too, But CJL has to be in the mix if he wants it. And don’t even @ me with this Gruden garbage

I went with “K-Mart” because it served my metaphor and sounded cool with Green & Gold Light Special wink-wink to the old “Blue Light Special” they used to promote, combined with his name. But I’m open to anything, I just think the kid deserves a good nickname considering he’s about to be The Next Big Thing under center. Maybe:

Hello all, picking a weird time to start going to USF road games again, but I figure these players need to see us repping them now more than ever! Is there still a decent crew of road warriors going to away games? I used to be at every one before moving back up to NY, but this will be my first road game in years. Would love to link up with the current Road Game Bullies in Philly this weekend or any TBP members, so definitely respond or email me (coachnicknm4pr@gmail.com) if you’ll be there at The Lonely Linc as part of a small but hopefully well hydrated USF Travel Tailgate, if it still exists in some form I hope! And hey if not but you were on the fence about going, now you at least will have another friend in green, too! Should be a chance for maybe our only other win this season, and you heard it here first, I’m betting on a huge Green & Gold Light Special coming out party for our new QB1 K-Mart — this kid is the real deal, Gerry may never see the field again if our coaching staff can keep from sabotaging him. This all definitely got me thinking with a lot more specificity at the problem-resolution…

One of the saddest parts about our current state is that even Coach Scott KNOWS IT. And if you read between the lines/looks on the sidelines/at his press conferences it’s right there. Yesterday postgame he said: “I promise you we’re doing everything we’ve ever known to try to do.”

I mean, the guy is all out of answers. And that’s because you can’t make a cow lay eggs, ya know? Actually this cow has presided over a lot of game day egg-laying it seems ironically. The guy just isn’t ready to succeed at this level. Speaking about guys that are though, look at who has had success here. Excluding one coach (CWT) whose success just happened to coincide with QF: Gods Gift Of A College Quarterback — Willie was actually a lot alike CJS to be honest (not great at the actual Xs and Os but a good program manager off the field — only he could recruit and connect with players, which he ended up parlaying into the QF Awakening) — there has only been one who had the magic recipe. Jim Leavitt. And why was that? It wasn’t because of a pretty resume, name-dropping connections, a genius coaching methodology, perfect recruiting, a once in a lifetime prospect, or anything else like that. It was that he was completely invested from all aspects, had been around enough college football over the years for a base of knowledge, with that he had used it to build a vision, never wavered, wore his heart on his sleeve about his love for all things USF which connected with everyone in that locker room and the program and community, was a leader and made sure everyone on board would do the same in their aspect, and all that together turned into a steady course for success that was truly magical and fun to be a part of. And despite how it ended, you can’t argue the type of leader he was suited our program.

That kind of thing doesn’t come around much anymore these days, so although we have to be committed on all levels to find it as an organization, we have to look in the right places. As someone mentioned, it’s time to take a look at the FCS level, where there are myriad success stories of guys who came from that level to succeed in FBS. Brian Kelly, Jim Harbaugh, Hal Mumme…more recently Chris Klieman, Lance Leipold…in our own conference Willie Fritz and Mike Houston…these guys have to do less with more every day and year in and out. You have to be 1000% in at all times in the same ways The Jim had to be to bring USF to initial success over a nicely timed period of success for quite a few years. And they’ll cost less than any other coach, with returns far outweighing the overall lay out.

USF HAS ALL THE POSSIBILITIES FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM ALL AROUND OUR SCHOOL’S PERIPHERY.

We just need the right people at the top, or have them change and rewind their current out of touch thinking and realize we need to change course, or us fans need to let them know we won’t let them be misguided anymore—because this program can be where it once was and even greater if we just clarify a new plan that reflects a lot of what the old plan got right just under new leadership and with a tweak toward the future. And grab our balls and make some hard changes.

And the next Brian Kelly’s and Chris Klieman’s are right there in the FCS now, waiting for a beefy powerhouse in the making just sitting in neutral like we are currently.
