Welcome to The Bullspen. Way to come out strong out of the gate with your first post. Thank you for taking the time to explain a complicated formula. I'm guessing you are related to Joaco in some way? Possibly a family member or coach of some sort?

    Thank you!

I'm not related to Joaco at all, just a big fan of the sport and excited for finally having a talented Chilean that could be a regular tour player some day. Definitely hoping that he earns the McCormack medal and attends school for 1 or 2 years.

There was a long rain delay in the 4th round.

Joaco just finished and is T15 (-8).

So, it looks like a repeat from last year, where Joaco will have to survive a playoff to see if he makes it into the top 16 for match play. Right now, there are three players tied at 15 (-8) and if it ends up like that, they will be playing off for two spots.

It would be nice for Joaco to play in the top 16 again, but as far as WAGR points are concerned it's not that big of a deal if he doesn't.

He has already earned about 10 points for this event. The winner will get roughly 17 points, so there really isn't much of a difference. He already has a substantial 30 point lead over #2 Maverick McNealy.

That is not entirely accurate. Joaco has indeed earn app. 10 points for the WAGR in 4 rounds, however the ranking is based in averages. In fact the ranking shows the average points earned by each player in each of the rounds played during the last 2 years multiplied by 100, thus Joaco averages 12.93 per round in 146 rounds played. This week Joaco does not drop any points, so after this tourney -and if Joaco looses in the first match of the bracket- he will loose points in the ranking, not earn, because 10 is below his average. If that happens his average will drop to app. 12.85 (or 1,285 total ranking points).

If he wins the first match of the bracket, he will earn 19 points and add one round, thus increasing the average of this tournament to 11.8. A quarterfinal win will add 23 points, 27 for a semifinal win and 31 for winning the championship match. If he looses there are no points awarded and no rounds added.

In other words, by playing, Joaco is risking more points than easily adding to what he already has in his ranking.

    Hope this helps.

    Greetings from Chile!
