  1. Shots fired:

South Florida is good, but it would seem in many areas their strengths are more than negated on the other side of the ball by Temple’s strengths. If Temple can stop Prosise, they can certainly stop Mack and force the Bulls to throw the ball, where they will have to face a defensive pass rush that sacked Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg 10 times.

Mike Gibson is pretty much the worst (creepy too). Here's some local (Philadelphia) game coverage from a credible new source:

  2.

i am glad even a fanboy such as your self who goes out of his way to make a profile on the opponents forum is overlooking us. If even you are overlooking us there is a good chance Temple is as well. Which will make the beat down that much sweeter.

    1. Notre Dame
    2. Cincinnati
    3. Penn State
    4. USF/ECU (toss-up since ECU has completely gone of the rails these past two games)

  3. Not my point.  In those lean years in the 90s & early 00s, I'd find it hard to believe fans didn't long for the teams of the 70s & 80s, remembering when they could beat teams like USF.

There's an oldhead part of the fanbase that waxes nostalgically about the Wayne Hardin, Bruce Arians (yeah, he used to coach Temple) days but 20 years of suck kind of wiped any sort of memory of those teams. It's a completely different university today and while there are nods to that past era of non-sucking, you might as well be talking about Pop Warner from the 1930s (another former Temple HC) with most younger (sub-40s) fans. I'm a 2000 graduate and for me, there weren't any good ol' days. Just lots of blowouts to the Miamis and VTs of the world.

I'd say a relevant comparison would be post-BE expulsion, seeing teams like Pitt and Rutgers move on to greener pastures. In our worst days these would be competitive games if not Temple wins. Especially Rutgers - seeing them in the big money Big Ten stings.

  4. Yes, that same team.  But we were talking about the Penn State team that beat conference mates Ruturds (1-5); Indiana (0-5) Marylamb (0-5); Illinois (2-3) along with Army (2-7).  The only team they beat that anyone would consider halfway good is a (6-3) SDSU team.  PennState still has losses to Michigan and Michigan State yet to come.

Does USF have a better win than Penn State or at Cincinnati?

Funny how you decided to cut it off at 2011 because we won at Nippert in 2010.  You guys are having really good season, but you really aren't that special for winning in Cincy.

I looked at 5 seasons. Apologies for not including that one year out of the past 8 where Cincinnati was miserable.

Temple was probably saying this about USF back before it got tossed from the BE and we got invited. It's cyclical, man, don't shoot yourself over it.

Nah, we sucked when we were tossed from the BE and deserved the boot. You're right, though - it's cyclical. Honestly, I feel like USF this year is pretty similar to 2014 Temple. Solid defense. Inconsistent offense. Playing the league's better teams close but losing (see 3 and 8 point Temple losses to Memphis and Cincinnati last year). A .500 team that's still a year away but improving.

  5. With Notre Dame, there is no argument, they are better than us.  Cincinnati will be decided soon.  Penn State would be a debate.

Penn State's losses have all been to ranked teams, while they've also beaten three above-.500 teams and a Maryland team that beat USF.

Cincinnati will be decided soon. Keep in mind, their loss to Temple was at home. Over the past five seasons, Cincinnati has lost 5 home games, to:

    • 2011: a ranked West Virginia team that won 10 games and went to the Orange Bowl
    • 2012: a ranked Rutgers team that won 9 games
    • 2013: a ranked Louisville team that won 12 games
    • 2014: a ranked Memphis team that won 10 games
    • 2015: Temple

Besides a 2 TD loss at 7-2 BYU, Cincinnati has lost by 7 at Memphis and 3 at Houston. Cincinnati is pretty good.

  6.

Mine is built on watching Temple play...  Your offense leaves a lot to be desired outside of Thomas. Most here see this as a low scoring affair with one or two plays being they difference. I think if this was an away game you'd see a different attitude here but this team is turning the corner and historically in games like this USF has risen to the occasion.

That's a reasonable assessment from a USF perspective. The Temple counter-argument would be that these are two similar teams with Temple's superior defense (particularly a better run defense), marginally better passing game, more consistent kicker and overall experience being the difference.

  7. This game is completely a toss up in my mind. It's whoever has the most fire and makes the fewest mistakes is going to win. Temple has had a very week schedule with an inflated record and if they come out and play like they did against UMass or UCF they will get stomped! Just like if we come out and play like we did against Maryland, we will get stomped. Hopefully that style of play is now a thing of the past!

This overabundance of confidence is built upon wins over UConn and ECU, right? And a 7-point home loss to Memphis?

  8. obviously you haven't seen our impressive resume this season. We have handily defeats some big named foes like FAMU and Syracuse.

But seriously you can't be bragging about beating the Molesting Lions. Their resume is as impressive as your, meaning they've lost to every good team they've played.

if you guys book some stiffer competition maybe you can be like us

Except for the fact that Penn State has actually beaten some teams with winning records (3 to be exact), in addition to a Maryland team that USF lost to by 18. USF's best win would be @ECU, correct? Or maybe @UConn? I think we can put either win on par with Penn State beating a 5-4 Illinois team 39-0. (ugh, I can't believe I'm sticking up for Penn State)

I'm happy this is a meaningful game in mid-November with conference title implications, but let's be real - USF will be the 4th best team Temple has faced this season, arguably 5th had ECU not gone off a cliff these past two weeks (after Temple beat them by 10).
