That is not entirely accurate. Joaco has indeed earn app. 10 points for the WAGR in 4 rounds, however the ranking is based in averages. In fact the ranking shows the average points earned by each player in each of the rounds played during the last 2 years multiplied by 100, thus Joaco averages 12.93 per round in 146 rounds played. This week Joaco does not drop any points, so after this tourney -and if Joaco looses in the first match of the bracket- he will loose points in the ranking, not earn, because 10 is below his average. If that happens his average will drop to app. 12.85 (or 1,285 total ranking points). If he wins the first match of the bracket, he will earn 19 points and add one round, thus increasing the average of this tournament to 11.8. A quarterfinal win will add 23 points, 27 for a semifinal win and 31 for winning the championship match. If he looses there are no points awarded and no rounds added. In other words, by playing, Joaco is risking more points than easily adding to what he already has in his ranking. Hope this helps. Greetings from Chile!
