:read while humming "another one bites the dust":

Devon Davis Suspended Indefinitely

TAMPA - South Florida starting linebacker Devon Davis has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules, Coach Jim Leavitt said.

Last season as a junior, Davis (6-foot-3, 225 pounds) started four of USF's first six games. He finished fifth on the team in tackles (41).

``We're working through some things,'' Leavitt said. ``It's doubtful he'll be with us this spring. We're moving on.''

In December, Davis received probation after pleading no contest to two misdemeanors. Davis was arrested July 8 in Ybor City for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and Oct. 3 for failing to appear in court from the earlier arrest and driving with a suspended license.

``I'm going to school doing what I'm doing,'' Davis said. ``I plan on staying at USF and playing next year.''

It may have to do with his academics.

At least he wasn't arrested.

I think there should be a team meeting explaining some things...          This undiscipline has to be stopped now! ("Nip it! Nip it in the bud. You have to nip it in the bud!"  Barney Fife)

The problem is that Leavitt isn't really much of a disciplinarian. Every one of our teams have lacked the discipline to compete with the big big schools. I mean look at our penalty minutes! I've always believed that we're just too out there; going with the flow. This can't be done anymore, football is a job in the college ranks, and I think the coaches and players are just still riding the emotional roller coaster of moving through the ranks all the way to a BCS team. Well now that we've hit the top, snap to reality, and get to work Leavitt. Hopefully he shows us a more disciplined squad next year with a BALANCE of emotion and hard work.

It's chaos, cats and dogs are friends, fans all love Mac, all this lawlessness, the world is one....

My god someone get me a gun, I don't know if I can carry on anymore.

Get a **** grip folks.  There's no 'undisciplined' situation, and for you to use that word is insinuating that the staff have no 'oversight' or provide zero 'discipline.  Which isn't the case and is damaging.

A few local newsworthy situations here and there do not denote a problem program.  There are no felons or troubled players running around.  Habitual offenders have always been shown the door.   In fact, I have a feeling that Davis' suspension is a message being sent to him to clean-up his act- and not legal, but his tardiness to workouts, and classroom activity.  Just because The Tribune found it newsworthy doesn't mean it's a bad thing.  With 106 players to watch out over, the coaches are going to always jump on a few.

do u really think a team is really that disciplined when we have that many penalties last season??? Or what about us playing down to the abilities or the teams we're playing( i.e. Tenn tech)??? There needs to be an improvement in discipline, i'm not saying there isn't any, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Oh Jesus Christ, is this board made up of freaks?

Try a Leavitt practice once, no just watch one.   Try going to the practice fields at 6AM when Leavitt traditionally meets players out there for sprints for missing class or workouts.  Try sitting in his office during a disciplining meeting....

Welcome to BCS Diddy....Clemson just released five players for disciplinary reasons....USC just released their star RB, and #1 USA TODAY HS AA in 03' for disciplinary reasons, UF Tuaren Charles...Miami- Willie Williams.....god it's so endless I don't know where to stop.

Sadly big time athletics also breeds bigtime issues, and problems.  I think despite our meteoric rise Leavitt's done a fine job staying on the problem.  Just because Brett McMurphy finds the disciplining of a player more newsworthy then the praising of one doesn't mean the program is falling apart.  What McMurphy reported on with Davis is occurring at just about every 1-A program in the country, and definitely every BCS program.

He suspended Davis indefinitely....how is that not discipline and how in the HELL IS HE NOT A DISCIPLINARIAN?????

I'll let it go from here because sadly this board and website have almost done a harm to our program seemingly growing discontentment toward our athletic programs.  Most websites breed 'loyalists' that defend the program, but I must admit I've never seen more haters, and bashers in my life on a FAN SITE.  Maybe the UCF fans have taken a new tact and disguised then infiltrated our ranks.  I'd be the first to call us out on an issue, but this is just ridiculous making wild ass accusations about Leavitt and the program after they suspend a kid because he's not living up to their potential.

SHUT UP!!!!!!  You're trying to correlate aggressive play with discipline off the field.

Put your application in Diddy.  You seem so **** qualified to give life lessons.  If you even met Leavitt once you wouldn't be saying this crap.  It sickens me to read it.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
