USF Women’s Hoops Assistant Amy Wright Resigns

Tampa, FL (May 16, 2006) – University of South Florida assistant women’s basketball coach Amy Wright has resigned her position to pursue other career opportunities. Her resignation is effective May 29.

“We wish Amy the very best of luck in all of her future endeavors,†said USF head women’s basketball coach Jose Fernandez. “With her wealth of knowledge and experience, she was a vital part of our success over the past three years.â€Â

Wright, a native of Richmond, IN has the past three seasons with the Bulls. She was hired at USF as director of basketball operations in 2003 and was named assistant coach in January 2004. She helped the Bulls advance to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance this past season. USF would finish the year with a 19-12 record and a 9-7 slate in its first year in the BIG EAST Conference.

A 2002 graduate of the University of Arkansas, Wright was a four-year letter winner on the Razorbacks basketball team, and graduated as the school’s career assist leader with 717 handouts. Following her time in Fayetteville, Wright played one season for the Detroit Shock of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Why are coaches leaving?  Are they reading spazza's doom and gloom analysis?

Owning and operating a Chick Fil A is a tad different than working in one.

Do you have something against entrepreneurism?

I just find it comical that he finds that to be a better, more lucrative gig than being a CUSA football coach.

Odds are he will make a lot more selling chicken than RS makes as OC at USF.

Shaine Miles was the Marshall Thundering Herd's tight ends coach. How much do you think that pays?

Who knows, but he won't be getting promotions to higher paying positions on the staff when he's slinging nuggets.

I don't know about that.  The franchise business is not the profit centers they once were.  The world of $.99 big macs, free toys in every kids meal, stores on every corner, and forcing to provide health bene's just to get some decent menial labor has made it a very marginalized business.  I would be shocked if a franchisee at a fast food restaurant would gross more than a $100k in take home pay from one store- maybe a bit more if he pockets all his annual distribution of net income.  I will say if any might yield a better result it would be Chic-Fil-A.  They've managed to not erode profit margins as much, although the Sunday thing must hurt.

To make money now you must own multiple stores, and receive exclusivity agreements.   The other problem with Chic-Fil-A is they're very strict about not allowing franchisees to get to much exclusivity in a given market and they actually cap the number of stores you can own (the CFA policy is they want the owner to be able to spend like 20% of the operating hours in the store)- trick, make your wife part owner.

He'll probably come out well ahead, but that's only if he doesn't think he'll ever become a HC.   Although, the rigors of a fast food owner are no less daunting.

This does not qualify as being an entrepreneur.

According to Webster's, an Entrepreneur is defined as, "One who undertakes to start and conduct an enterprise or business, usually assuming full control and risk."

Owning an established franchise is a little different.

Whoever making up words by adding ism to the end of them may qualify this instead:

en·tre·pre·neur·ial·ism
