Slow-up on the CCS hate

Actually he was fired for interfering in the investigation and not the slap. Not saying he did not deserve it but if you don’t think we weren’t already looking for an exit plan for Jim you are sadly mistaken. Jim just provided the ammo to make it easy.

Agree with some of that but yes, I was thrilled to be 7-0 because I’m more a bottom line type of guy and not into the over analyzing of how we had gotten there and wringing my hands about 4 and 5 games down the line. I like the one game at a time approach. 

Fully understand some of the critiquing of certain aspects of our play but also believe there’s some serious overreacting going on. In the end, I know that these things are what drives message boards but there are times it gets beyond ridiculous and some of that nonsense is embarrassing to me as a fan.

Sounds like your deep seated problem is rooted in where we are as a program currently, through no fault of our own.

Quoted posts #1 & 2, meet post #3. Again, while I have posted in this topic, I have not called for firing CCS. I stepped in to defend the idea that we could be doing better, and that I believe the quality of our own-field product has greater potential than has been realized. I added the idea that we should have greater hopes for the program than giving up 42 pts to UMass and going down to the wire with nearly winless teams. Keyboard warriors are adept at utilizing tangential interpretations. There is no delusion in believing our team could have been undefeated last year or this year with our athletes and our SOS (aside perhaps from the bowl game opponents such a regular season may bring). Clearly, you cannot in retrospect discount UCF fans who believed the same about their program last year, as an example. I equally detest the "NC or bust" crowds at bigger schools, but ultimately long for USF to be counted among those bigger schools. Period. Maximizing our potential is the point, and expression of disappointment with failure to do so is not delusional. The eagerness with which some on this message board have displayed to discount the idea is uninspired, and the straw man arguments may distract some but I find them undeterring.

Jim seemed to reach a plateau and there was some grumblings.

CCS has not hit a plateau as far as we know.

The thing I don't get, is how does our defense get worse in Charlie Strong's second year.  

He was supposed to build the defense of old.  I think we are seeing Taggert's recruiting carry over on offense, and defense.  

Hopefully CCS is loading the defensive cupboard and keeping the weapons coming on offense.  I just can't wait for the day when we get an offense and a defense at the top of third game.   It seems we can't have both.

Next year is our best chance. Fingers crossed.

I see your point and understand where you're coming from. I completely agree. If we fail our objective of a conference championship this year and fail to be competitive against tough opponents then ccs should be in the hot seat come next year. I do NOT believe he should be fired after this year regardless of the outcome for the end of this season.

However, perhaps our perception of the original post was different. My original response was once again in the long term point of view rather than just this season. Given our schedule and talent I absolutely believe that our USF football program should be ranked in the top 25 every single year. It might sound ridiculous to some but those are my thoughts on how athletic and talented our team is typically. 

And man am I praying that we don't drop any more for the rest of the season. It would be amazing to fight on black Friday for a spot in the ccg!

Nobody needs to be fired but It's concerning that we seem to have the same issues every single week and we haven't seen either unit make major improvements as the season has progressed.  This is still the same team it was in week 1 and that is entirely on the coaches.  Usually with young teams you can watch them mature and progress and you are clearly a different team in week 9 than you were in week 1 and that is not the case here.  Normally I would just chalk this up to being off schedule in player development but this is two years in a row that this has been the case.    The fact that penalties and special teams have been such issues for us two seasons in a row makes me question the coaches attention to detail or possibly even if this team has ever truly bought into the culture change/transition from CWT to CCS....

I know no one wants to hear this, but our penalties are down from last year and have been trending down this season as it's progressed. Special teams are still a **** show.
