The Bulls (3-17, 0-7 American Athletic Conference) are coming off a 64-54 loss to UCF on Wednesday. The Cougars (13-5, 3-3) are coming off a 77-73 loss at No. 8 SMU on Tuesday. USF is led by freshman Jahmal McMurray and his 13.8 points per game. McMurray has been the Bulls’ main 3-point threat, is shooting 33.6 percent from beyond the arc this season including 38.8 percent in conference play. His 44 made 3-point field goals have already passed Troy Holston Jr.’s freshman total of 39 last season. McMurray currently ranks fourth in the single-season freshman record book for 3-point field goals. Dominique Jones’ freshman total of 54 is the next target for McMurray. Senior Jaleel Cousins leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game, which rank sixth in the conference. Senior Angel Nunez has played well as of late, averaging 11.3 points and 7.7 rebounds over the last three games. He is averaging 9.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this season. Houston leads the all-time series, 13-11, and won the first meeting of the season, 73-67. In that game, USF dominated the boards with a 45-23 advantage. Junior forward Chris Perry had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the game, which was also the conference opener for both teams. QUICK NOTES > USF is looking for its first road win of the season (0-6) and will try to snap a six-game skid at Houston. > Against UCF, USF had its best turnover/assist ratio of the season (1.9) with 15 assists and a season-low eight turnovers. > Jaleel Cousins was limited to eight minutes vs. UCF due to an injury to his left hand he sustained at Memphis. > USF’s strength of schedule ranks No. 26 according to the NCAA. > Freshman Jahmal McMurray has led the team this season and ranks 10th in the conference in scoring (13.8). > Freshman Jahmal McMurray ranks in the conference's top 11 in FG% (39.4) and 3-point FG% (33.6). > USF ranks second in the conference and 13th in the NCAA with 5.7 blocks per game. > Freshman Jahmal McMurray leads the conference in minutes played at 34.9. > Jaleel Cousins ranks sixth in The American with 8.3 rebounds per game and fifth with 1.7 blocks per game. OPPONENT INFORMATION> Houston is 10-1 at home this season. Its lone loss came on Jan. 17 vs. UConn, 69-57. > The Cougars have lost three straight after winning five straight and eight of nine games. > Houston is led by sophomore guard Rob Gray Jr. and his league-leading 17.6 points per game. He had 19 points against the Bulls in December. > Houston boasts the best 3-point defense in the conference at 28.4 percent. USF picked up its 600th win vs. Jacksonville. > USF is thin at the guard position with Roddy Peters out indefinitely after suffering a fractured left foot against NC State. Sophomore guard Troy Holston Jr. went down with a torn ACL in July. Three more scholarship players are unavailable in Tulio Da Silva (non-qualifier), Isaiah Manderson (transfer) and Geno Thorpe (transfer). > The Bulls possess one of the biggest front courts in the league with 6-11 Jaleel Cousins, 6-11 Ruben Guerrero, 6-8 Luis Santos and 6-8 Chris Perry.
