why is he pissed at usf?

This went on the last two years as well and everyone speculated that he wasn't happy with USF.  I truly don't think it has anything to do with it considering we still see him at USF events from time to time.  I know he's very proud of his high school, and keep in mind that he also went to more than one university.

A Wise man once told me excuses don’t count in the big leagues you’re supposed to compete and win no matter what happens

Football is a violent sport so injuries happen. But Could it be because this team is so ill prepared and many times it looks like a Chinese fire drill on defense that players are getting hurt more often because they’re just out of position and they’re not being reactionary but playing tentatively

I got a good laugh out of this one.  Very accurate.

I feel CJS should have hired Shawn King as a QB coach and kept BJM  as DC. We need to cut losses with Shoop and promote Ernie Sims to DC. I don't see them firing CJS. Statistically the defense has improved, we just need better play calling.. GB finally threw a few touch down passes. You might as well let this year ride out with CJS  then go with a lame duck assistant coach. Who will lead this team Trickett? I'll take a CJS firing if Ernie Sims is promoted.

I agree with this, but it's also not reality.  The CCS experiment failed miserably, so it's not surprise that any staff that comes in would be cleaning house.

What an amazing take... you're saying we should avoid bringing in a Super Bowl winning coach that players have been watching for years every Sunday (and also during Draft work-ups) because of his one private incident (via witch hunt by the NFL)? I'm pretty sure the players would gravitate to Gruden - as would the parents of players hoping to give their kid a shot at the NFL. If Gruden is a racist, so is almost everyone on this message board as the amount of interactions Gruden has had with minorities over the years is unparalleled compared to most people here.

There's a reason we don't have Mike Leach coaching here (because of some petty BS at Texas Tech that scared away the administration after the Leavitt fiasco). We could have also been in the conversation for Lane Kiffin... but no, that didn't happen because we took the payday from UT to get choirboy Strong off of their hands vice finding a coach that has the ability to win. If you can't win at Texas, you're just not cut out for coaching as they literally roll out the red carpet and unload bags of money at the door for you so you can succeed.

We need a proven head coach (look at the D2 and D3 ranks if need be) that shows a propensity for winning. Co-coordinators are hit and miss. Retreads are hit and miss. Even former players aren't necessarily going to be homeruns. I love Larry Scott, but is Howard really a powerhouse yet? They're 4-14 under Larry Scott.

    Winners find ways to win...

And people wanting Willie back - he can recruit - he demonstrated that based on the amount of players he placed in the NFL. After bouncing from program to program though, has he figured out the little details that make some head coaches the figure head for a university? He had a good thing at USF - and you can't blame him for taking the money at Oregon - however ever since his 7-5 season there, he's been pretty inept in each of the seasons wherever he's coaches. Could he change the mindset back at USF? Who knows? However he'll definitely alienate half of your donor base that was upset when he bounced (and didn't like the culture of the program when he was here originally).

Let Scott finish the season - it's a dumpster fire currently. If he can't turn the corner, fire him at the end of the season quickly so we can get back on the coaching carousel. This also gives Kelly time to find a coach that can win.

On a different note, Scott Frost is available (which goes against everything I said above).

FFS, he made proven racist comments. It’s a liability and a risk that we could avoid. Doesn’t matter, we wouldn’t hire him anyways. You’re going off on way too many aspects that I never even mentioned.

The GRIT score was a totally subjective rating by the S&C coaches.  Who knows, It could have been a means to play favorites.  GB was at the top of the GRIT score before he was even listed on the roster.  Maybe these coaches play favorites and the players sense it and have checked out.

You do know that GB practiced with the team plenty before being listed on the online roster, correct?

I am not sure what the advantage is unless there is someone already fired that we would want to pick up or the old Gruden conspiracy theories.

I’m sure bringing in Gruden would bold over real well with recruits and current players, especially since our roster is made up of well over 50% of African Americans.

In both color uniforms ......... Most true freshmen qb's thrown into the fire look like trash. If he was ready enough to start immediately coming out of high school we probably wouldn't have gotten him. Look, I was perfectly fine with the decision to start Gerry for some of the intangibles. The only apprehension I had was that all GB's good stuff on the field was done pre-injury. I didn't see the video of the bowl game but the stats were less than impressive. The BU Spring game video was not very impressive either, included was a pick 6 and another that could have been ....... Hopefully things start coming together here for him, especially with the wr's giving him a little more help.

McClain also looked pretty bad in our spring game, which I’m sure played a role in us getting GB.

4 games in going with the "Naming him the starter was the right choice" is shaky at best given the results. At this point, McClain looks like the smart one to not let himself rot as a backup with such incompetence running things vs. worst case scenario being a backup at a school and program that is not incompetent.

    So…you’re saying he’d still be a backup?

  9. What a pointless thread filled with “what could have been.”  Bohanon is a starter because of where he came from and how well he played. Naming him the starter was the right choice. Did you guys not watch our QB last year? Did I miss something? I know he was a true freshman, but if he would have stayed he’d more than likely be our QB right now. Instead, his dad was in his ear and now he’s looking at potentially being another backup with not many choices left.

I did articulate earlier in the thread - ability of the team to focus due to family situations, Scott’s performance in road games, loss of the home crowd as a motivating factor, potential travel complications (though they are leaving today)

I would not call it dumb per week, but certainly risky

The game was scheduled for 7 PM - I would have either held that time or looked to play on Sunday

It was either that or play at ECU.  This is the better option.

ECU lost by 1 to #13 NC State & by 3 to Navy in OT. They beat a decent ODU, who beat Va Tech on the road. I don't think we can pencil in a W yet.

I’m not saying we’re going to win the game, but using their loss to #13 NC State isn’t really relevant. That’s a rivalry game for them and it hasn’t been a blowout in either side in years. We lost by 3 to the #18 team at the time and had a 4th quarter lead.

So actual, official representatives of the University of North Carolina put that out there ...?

I have a hard time trusting any source like this that doesn’t say what their actual source is. The people that are in these meetings are held under NDAs I would have to imagine. There’s been previous talk of a merger but we’ll see how things really play out
