True. The ceremony can take place earlier... although I don't recall the time being that far off for the IPF.  (Could be misremembering)

For the IPF we did the groundbreaking ceremony on September 9th 2021. I believe this is when Weatherford first announced we were going to build a stadium.

Then it wasn't until December 2nd that year that we event started removing the turf that was on the practice field site that is now the IPF

Ground breaking will be next June according to the agenda for the committee that met today.

October will start moving the recreation fields and campus recreation maintenance/storage to the other side of campus.  Until those are complete, the existing rec fields will be used.

Wonder if the groundbreaking ceremony will be in October or June then. I think for the IPF we had the groundbreaking ceremony before clearing all that land and setting the foundation for construction so it could be October.

But that would mean we'd need renderings by then, don't think I've ever seen a groundbreaking ceremony without a picture of whats being built.

We’ll see but you can look at the jobs the builder has done already and get a sense for what they do.  Their designs don’t look like snapdragon or canvas stadium.  They’re much lighter in scale with more modern lines with smaller capacity and tend to have certain elements akin to international/soccer stadiums, like seating/standing sections etc.  I appreciate what you’re doing I think expectations need to be recentered though.  Think of a cross between MLS and FAU…

In the doc for the board of trustees meeting that sparked this thread page 90 literally shows the 2 design options they are shooting for:

1.) Hybrid of Houston's stadium and Colorado State's stadium. This is estimated to cost $200 million.

2.) Hybrid of SDSU and Colorado State's stadium. This is estimated to cost $300 million.

The builder/design firm we went with is Populous AND Barton Malow. Populous is the architect behind Colorado State's stadium so not sure where you are getting the idea that our's won't look anything like that. Also San Diego State's stadium is literally the exact size we've heard for ours: 35k

Fowler Ave Collective, which supports USF athletes' NIL opportunities, recently announced two new hires to its staff.
    • Currently have 200 members who pay monthly dues, this is about 60,000 to 75,000 annually
    • Goal is to get 1000 members to get that recurring amount to 350,000 annually
    • LOT of non recurring payments. In the last 3 months they have raised close to a million bucks

I think there's a legitimate concern we end up Colorado State rather than SDSU. Nice stadium, lifeless program, no prospects for moving up.

    I get that.

Within a 10 mile radius of Colorado State's campus there are 217,188 people

Within a 10 mile radius of USF's campus there are 726,262 people

Denver to Fort Collins is a 90 minute drive, people aren't making it unless the team is good. In terms of ability to consistently fill a stadium regardless of team success, USF's floor here will be much bigger.

And for success, it would have to be recurring.

I just don't see how our NIL will ever be enough to keep anyone here that can go nearly anywhere else for chump change; and for top talent, the top programs, just like before will always be richer.  NIL is a necessary evil at this point, but not high on my list of ways to support.

I think you'd want to get a big donation like that, then just park it like an endowment and use the interest to make the NIL payments. Asking for extra millions every year doesn't seem sustainable.

If you can consistently get 4% on 5,000,000 you'd have 200k a year to pay out NIL and never have to ask for NIL fundraising again

Dude also have ny6 wins and has won at every stop. You can be an ***** amd be a great coach see Nick Saban.

Herman has 6 years as a HC. First 5 we're with a good DC (Todd Orlando) who had them averaging a top 40 defense over those 5 years. Then he left to USC, the next year Texas let up 32+ PPG in conference and Herman got fired.

So Herman had NY6 wins and success with our current DC, then got fired 1 year without him.

the ever rising payouts to sports leagues is ending. cable is going the way of the dinosaur. so are the carriage fees.

these leagues will be hard pressed to collect on the promised payouts in the future let alone get an increase. while news and live sports have kept cable relevant longer than they should have, streaming is the way of the future. there are quite a few people paying carriage fees for sports channels that they won't want to pay for streaming.

And in the sports world, executives are beginning to grapple with the rocketing cost of sports rights, with similar implications. ESPN “is going through some obviously challenging times because of what’s happened in linear programming,” Disney CEO Bob Iger told analysts Feb. 8. While Iger said he wants ESPN to stay in business with the NBA (the next major league with rights renewals coming up), he added that the menu of promising sports deals is likely to slim down. “I’ve had long conversations about this with [ESPN chief] Jimmy Pitaro, and we’ve got some decisions that we have to make coming up,” Iger said. “And we’re simply going to have to get more selective.”

While it isn’t all doom and gloom (Moody’s analyst Neil Begley forecast Feb. 10 that linear TV “will take years to melt”), the challenges will only grow starker and the need to control costs more urgent. In the end, streaming, as Iger told analysts as it relates to ESPN, is (as Thanos was fond of saying) “inevitable.”

For years, cable channels have used steadily rising carriage fees and advertising growth to offset subscriber decline. Now, times may be changing “as cord-cutting...

    0x0.jpg?format=jpg&width=1200

Bally Sports has defaulted on payments of 5 MLB teams, yet still is televising games. This led an emergency motion demanding payments.

yeah sports tv contracts seems like a bubble. The payouts now compared to 20 years ago are insane while tv ratings don't seem all that different. Would think we're pretty close to things at least plateauing if not declining.

Interseting move he is leaving FAU. He produced last year and Herman is a proven winner. The new DC was his old DC and probably got him here. That is a solid pick up. He will probably be our best LB.

Herman is also a major ass hole. At Texas part of the reason he got fired is all his players hated him. A report had come out that when recruits we're coming to visit Texas active players on the roster that Herman recruited we're telling those players not to come there. Resulting in him pulling the worst recruiting class in their schools history since they started rating recruits.

Definitely could see Herman rubbing this kid the wrong way and him just deciding to follow his old coordinator

A while back their was mention of an entertainment district tied to the stadium.  I guess nothing has come out on that?   Just read a story (sorry can't link) about how Tenn is building a massive entertainment center outside Nyland stadium.     Granted ours would not be anything like theirs but it could be a nice little revenue stream

I think some people involved in sessions where the design firms were asking questions mentioned they are looking at having a restaurant in the stadium open year round.

Don't sleep on Kobe Knox.  I love the film on the kid.  Very athletic, good skills and plays great defense.  I would love to see what he could do if given serious minutes.

    Seems cold blooded

In conference tourney semi-final game of a 1 bid conference he scored 18 of his teams first 30 points en route to a 3 point win. Didn't miss a single shot or free throw doing it either.

I would be shocked if USF kept that game close. This is not a knock against USF as WKU is a strong program. I do believe we will see many USF fans upset about the final outcome unfortunately. The Navy game is what I’m focusing on as that is a realistic chance at catapulting USF into bowl game projections

    Hell no.

If we lose that game whatever. They've been a strong G5 team and we've been ass. But it better be a loss like UF, Cincy, Tulsa, or UCF last year where we leave the game thinking "****, we're just as good as them. maybe if the ball bounced the other way that one time".

If we continue our trend of getting blown out in the FBS opener my confidence in Golesh is dropping. The opener sets the tone for the season, and getting blown out by Western Kentucky would have me give up on any idea of 5+ wins

  13. Page 90 shows 2 design options.

1.) A hybrid of Houston and Colorado State's new stadiums. Estimated cost to construct in Tampa in 2025 is 200 million.

2.) A hybrid of San Diego State and Colorado State's new stadiums. Estimated cost to construct in Tampa in 2025 is 300 million.

Sounds like we're going with option 2, if you want to know what the stadium/amenities look like googling those two stadiums probably gives you a good idea.

It does mention for option 1 we'd already have all the money we'd need based on debt financing, philanthropic fundraising, and capital seat gifts. For option 2 there is currently a 100,000,000 funding gap. On page 96 it goes over how they'd fill that gap. Student fee's seem involved.

If we're going to allocate 10k seats to students and 3k seats for visitors (in most contracts these days), I really think they need to consider going to 40,000 now even if 5,000 of that is standing room/berm/open concourse/gen adm bleachers.  I know we want to create demand and can expand in the future, but 35k just sounds too small now.

it also points out we're only having 20k tickets scanned per game now and 35k is to create some scarcity/demand to drive season ticket sales. If we start selling out every game and need to expand in a decade thats a good problem to have

  15. Page 27 points out we are currently having around 20k tickets scanned per game, given historical trends with new stadiums and attendance they estimate we'll have around 24k tickets scanned per game with the OCS.

Estimates it'll generate 20.5 million in net operating revenue with 5.3 million in operating expenses.

  16. Mentioned on the doc is the recommended building program: 35k seat capacity. 10k seats dedicated to scholarship seating (student section?). 1,200 club seats. 40 loge boxes. 24 luxury suites. Field level club with capacity to support 800 memberships

Also points out the average cost for an FBS stadium to be built in Tampa is estimated at 194.1 million. They are estimating between it'll be between 277.2 and 302.9 million to make it a top tier stadium.

A site location was recommended and selected over a year ago; then a world-class design and build firm was selected (Barton Malow and Populous) last September. Since then, over the past couple months, we have been working hard on the overall contract which is about 95% complete (should be complete before the BOT meeting). The business term sheet is locked in and will be discussed today. This allows us to move into the next phase, which is the design phase. This initial design phase will result in the preparation and completion of the plans for the stadium and will include multiple opportunities for the USF community to provide input on the design of the stadium. This will provide a blueprint for the stadium and the costs associated with it; it will also allow us to have a detailed construction timeline. Today we are asking to move into the design phase which is asking to spend up to $22M in the design phase to achieve these results.

sounds like we're still months away from any images of what this thing will look like

Having Stroud and Youngblood on the team will help, and I think they have the talent to keep up in the AAC. Just not sure about the other recruits.

We will see.  Anything less than 14 to 16 wins would be disappointing.

I think Jose Placer was a great grab too. In 77 games over 3 season at North Florida he is averaging 14.3 PPG, 3.0 APG, 80% FT, 43.8% FG, and 36.1% from 3 on 6 attempts per game.

That includes 13 games against P5 teams + Gonzaga. In those games he averages: 9.2 PPG, 2.8 APG, on 35.2% FG

Not bad when surrounded by North Florida players facing the Kentucky, UCLA, Miami, Florida, Gonzaga, etc. I'd feel confident he averages those P5 counting stat #'s here, but on better efficiency since the AAC is a step below those teams.

Having a guy like this as the first guard off the bench behind Youngblood/Miguel could be huge.

but you said this roster is so much talent we could easily win 20 games. the roster is already so far ahead of last years in reference to talent per your previous post.

I see you want to have it both ways, hype up the recruiting as being a major haul (I disagree) but then also defend him if he fails to get to atleast .500.

I think its fair to set the year 1 goal at last years record.

If we go 14-18? I'll probably think he's better than Gregory, but will need another year to see if he's our guy or not.

If we do worse than that I think its fair to be pessimistic, if we win 15+ games year 1 I'll be excited for year 2.

Hate that, diluted a bit too much. Also no way Notre Dame joins any conference besides the Big 10.

You have Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, and Boston College already. Just add USF, Memphis, and UConn and have a 9 team conference like God intended.

Every team plays each other in Football every year and every team plays each other twice in basketball.

Exactly right. In basketball there should be no muti year rebuilds  All it takes to be competitive is to recruit 2 to 3 very good players.  If we don't win  at least 14  games next season there will be no excuses.

Recruiting has been subpar so far. But there is still time. Haynes and Udeh would be good pick ups

i'm thinking the fact he grabbed a grad transfer PG with 1 year of eligibility is a sign he wants to set the tone year 1 and isn't waiting around for a rebuild
