Keith Frazier ruled academically ineligible.

Justin Martin left the team to go prol

SMU get a "Notice of Allegations" from the NCAA which includes accusations of academic improprieties.

Assistant Coach Ulric Maligi, who recruited Frazier, suddenly takes a leave of absence.

Hmmmm.....

This is such bs though. North Carolina should've been penalized, but they weren't because they're in the ACC and have a ton of history and weight/muscle. SMU does things that the powerhouses all do and get in trouble. I hope Antigua is being smart because most teams do cheat/borderline cheat.

You can't say SMU is immune, since they're the only team ever to get the death penalty...

The NCAA should concentrate on what it takes to make the schools competitive between themselves, like a cap on salaries and program funding. They should let the schools and academic governing bodies that accredited them worry about academics and they should not have any say on students working.

They should do both.

Do you really think schools are capable of policing themselves?

Who do you think are causing the violations in the first place? SMU, the reason for this thread, is a prime example, UNC being an even better one.

It would get much much worse (pretty much a wild west situation) without any oversight, even one as bad as the NCAA.

The problem with the NCAA is how wildly uneven they are with their punishments, these two schools being a prime example.

Throw in the debacle at Miami..

...or Pedi-U, which today had all of Paterno's wins restored (which means they were basically given a light slap on the wrist for its egregious actions)

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
