UCF coach George O’Leary: SEC ‘sounds like the South during the Civil War’

by Michael Collins

You would think the University of Central Florida head football coach George O’Leary would have learned about just being thankful and keeping his mouth shut from is resume-fudging debacle.

Rest of story

Issues behind the South's secession from the Union aside, he does sort of have a point.

The author is more interested in taking O'Liar to task for the comments (normally I would join right in) instead of actually trying to get inside his head for a moment.

Who cares about who ended up winning the Civil War in this discussion? It's not the point.

Agreed.  When I saw O'Leary's comments (on the surface) I agreed.  I think it's funny that the analogy is more important than the issue.

Fansided could be the new Bleacher Report. Author is nothing more than an SEC apologist. Found the last paragraph pretty funny:

O’Leary was summarily skewered and roasted on the message boards and forums, as well he should have been.

My guess is those were forums of the schools that reside in states that were part of the losing side of the Civil War.

It's only been 150 years, but the south is still **** arrogant and defensive about their war they lost. And I don't consider Florida the south btw lol.

These SEC apologists don't have a defense, so they're going after the tangent.

He got as many favorable comments  for saying what many coaches think, but cannot voice. He is certainly ...often grating, but every once in awhile, he is refreshingly candid.  I have experienced his non public persona, it is nothing like you see depicted in public. Probably like many Head coaches.

Just my opinion.

... he is refreshingly candid.

I saw this with him at GATech, thought it was funny then. We (I) just have a reason to see it with a different perspective now...lol.

I always liked CJL's candor, he had a few lapses but generally did a good job keeping his foot out of his mouth while being entertaining.
