You can try fisherman's landing by I-75 on fowler. My friend lived there.

New Tampa is a traffic nightmare. Better off looking in temple terrace.

Lodge at Lakecrest.

Right down the street from USF, just north of Busch Gardens. More upscale than the cheaper, party housing north of campus.

I got a chance to know this guy a bit...he was interested in my sister and refers to her in the book. She decided she could do better than a guy who lives in a van. ;) But he was a good guy and you have to respect his fortitude.

Don't rent at Summit West on 5th and Fowler. I stayed there back in 07 so it may be nicer. Good location to the school and I-75 and they are all single story apartments so no neighbors below or above you which is what enticed me. But the 3 police raids and the fact they could not keep either of their pools clean was terrible. Not to mention it took forever for maintenance to fix the smallest issues.

Thanks for the help everyone. Today I had a chance to check out both Fisherman's Landing and Carlton Arms. Both had positives and negatives. I was actually going to check out Summit West. Is it really that bad of a place? Not having neighbors above or below is very attractive.

I lived at Summit West decades ago but I think it has changed a lot since I was there and would have to agree with 206. I'd check out to see if there are any condos in Raintree Village for rent. Don't really know how to check but did find this ...http://www.apartmentlist.com/listing#u35530933-24
