That's great news. A weekend sweep would be stellar.

Ambler, Pa. (April 11, 2014) – USF scored the game’s first five runs en route to a 13-6 win over Temple Friday afternoon in an American Athletic Conference contest at Skip Wilson Field.

“It was a good effort by the team today,” said head coach Lelo Prado. “Herget was Herget and we finally scored some runs so it made things a lot easier. I am happy with the performance but we have to go take game two tomorrow.”

Kyle Teaf began the game with a single up the middle and later moved up to second on a ground out before scoring on a Daniel Portales single through the right side.

USF would score a pair of runs in each of the next two innings to extend their lead to 5-0. In the second, Nik Alfonso executed a suicide squeeze scoring Levi Borders while Teaf had an RBI single plating Zac Gilcrease. An inning later, Luke Borders had a two-run single through the right side.

Temple got a run back in the bottom of the third on a Derek Peterson RBI double to leftfield which plated Reyn Sugai who reached on a fielding error.

The Bulls exploded for five runs in the fourth which was aided by a pair of Temple errors. Luke Maglich reached on a dropped fly ball plating Teaf and Lawrence Pardo on the play. Gilcrease had the other big hit in the inning with a two-run single to right field.

After a couple of scoreless innings, USF tacked on to their lead with three runs in the seventh to give USF a 13-1 advantage. Maglich and Hayden Kelley had back-to-back RBI singles followed by a Joe Altieri sacrifice fly.

Temple scored the final five runs of the game which included a three-run home run by Jimmy Kerrigan.

Jimmy Herget picked up the win improving to 5-4 on the year. He tossed six innings allowing five hits and an unearned run while striking out seven. Teaf paced the offense going 3-for-3 and walked twice. He scored three times and also knocked in a run. Maglich, Portales and Levi Borders all had two-hit performances.

Matt Hockenberry (4-2) suffered the loss for Temple going just four innings allowing 10 runs (five earned) on 11 hits and a pair of free passes. Phil Gianakos went four innings in relief allowing three runs while Daniel Wasson worked a scoreless ninth. Kerrigan and Peterson each had multi-hit games for the Owls.

The two sides will continue the American Athletic Conference series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Campbell’s Field in Camden, N.J.
