Our conference doesn't have the respect for anything worse from us.

I also think that our performance this year will help. We win 21-22 games with a few quality wins and we are on the bubble.

If you are beating Memphis, UCONN and Cincy at least once and stay away from losing to the Detroits and Stoneybrooks of the world we have a chance. So what exactly does that mean for SMU and the American Athletic Conference? 1. The bottom line is SMU should have been in the tournament. The Mustangs beat UConn not once but twice this season including an impressive 64-55 win on the road. The only other team to sweep UConn was Louisville, which advanced to the Sweet 16. After being left out of the tournament, SMU made a run to the NIT championship game, where it fell just short of winning the title. But overall, the Mustangs had a spectacular season that also featured wins over Cincinnati and Memphis and a near perfect home record. 2. The AAC definitely deserved more respect. Sure, the bottom half of the conference was terrible. But teams in the top tier were some of the best in the country. Cincinnati, Louisville, SMU and UConn all finished ranked in the top-25 at season’s end. The NCAA committee, however, didn’t give the league much respect. Louisville, which was projected to be a No. 1 seed by some national analysts, was slotted as a No. 4 seed. UConn and Memphis were seeded too low as well. And SMU was left out of the tournament entirely. 3. Will the AAC get more respect next year? It should, but remember, Louisville is leaving, and East Carolina, Tulsa and Tulane are coming in– not exactly basketball powerhouses. The conference is beginning to look a little more like Conference USA 2.0, so it’ll be interesting to see how the committee treats the league next season. The good news for SMU fans is they shouldn’t have to worry about the Mustangs being left out of the 2015 big dance. SMU is an early favorite to win the AAC, and there is no way the committee will sleep on the Ponies again.

Pretty sure we can FINALLY avoid losing to Rutgers from now on.

Their out of conference strength of schedule was ranked 202nd with no major wins. In conference they lost to us and Temple. They were a bubble team if you went by their mid 40s RPI before the tourney. Polls mean nothing.
