Really hoping that Oliver Antigua joins his brother Orlando here at USF. If that happens we could be gaining a top 50 player in the 2014 class in Dominican PF Angel Delgado much to the dismay of the Pirates fans. Delgado has only been in the US for a very short time and he developed a close relationship with the Antiguas while playing for them on the Dominican National Team. He was recruited by the likes of Kentucky, Georgetown, and Louisville, but Kentucky never offered. Struggling Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard hired Oliver to not only help recruit the NY/NJ area, but get Delgado to come along with him and that's what happened. Word was that Delgado, who's English is still very limited, felt more comfortable playing for a coach that speaks his language.

According to Rivals Delgado hasn't signed his LOI with the Pirates so IF Oliver does come on board, I'm not saying it will happen but it's a possibility and something to a least keep an eye on.

Would he be the highest ranked Hoops recruit ever to come to USF?  Gotta think Coach has a plan and this could be a huge step in the right direction.

Every coach has a plan.  What is important is having a good plan and being able to execute the plan.

I'm sure he has enough money to hire a driver.

But does he have enough sense?  4 DUIs?

If COA insists on making him an assistant, I would offer him a coaching contract and deduct what it would cost to pay for the driver for the duration of the contract, for business purposes only, and hire a driver to handle it.  If he wants to hire the driver for personal use, that's his business, but he would certainly be on a tight leash.

COA doesn't need any crap to happen with his coaches during his first college head coaching job.

I think in Florida 4 dui convictions can tag you with a felony.  It isn't easy getting hired at public schools in Florida with a felony history.  I hope Strickland can land USF job if he wants it...he will be scrutinized a bit more before being hired as a USF coach.

Does he have 4 convictions? A lot of the time they are plead out to a reckless driving charge.

I read that he beat one of those DUI's.

The UK assistant and former NBA star has three previous DUI arrests, the most recent being a 2001 incident in Virginia. Strickland was convicted in 1998 for the same charge and completed a year probation and 30 hours of community service. In 1999, he was acquitted of charges relating to driving drunk in Washington.

Never really know what happened without reading all the case files...could have been just one dui with serious bodily injury to someone and some legal fiction used with a plea deal used to reduce penalties or keep him out of jail!  USF will have to check out the details if they consider hiring him.  DUIs suck...no winners.

You forgot about the lawyers.

if he truly has 4 duis he better be an active member of aa for years

drug and booze testing better be part of the deal--if not---bad hire

Eeeexactly! And the lawyer has a great point about including some mandatory testing. He was lucky UK held on to him, and he'd be lucky to get this second chance at coaching. I'm all for believing in turnarounds, but not sure if worth the risk in OA's first year (nod to GA).
