Lon Kruger was pretty decent at Florida before Donovan so I disagree they were nothing before Donovan got there.  Also comparing the money UF has to throw at both programs is a little different than USF.  USF is still trying to get football back going not to mention they are still paying Heath,Holtz and the old AD right?   I mean that's like saying I can see FIU winning the national title in football if all the people are in the right place.  I don't see it.  Like I said no reason USF can't get to some NCAA tourney's more consistently sure but, I think if you looked at it from the outside man it's USF basketball man.  They couldn't even really get fans to come to bball games when they were in one of the best college bball conference there was The Big East.  People don't really care much about college bball in Florida least the people I have talked to.  Even the Gators sure theri fans come when they are good but, other than that there are empty seats at the O Dome all the time.  It;s all about fball down there. Sorry man I think seriously went wrong if they won a national title in bball.  I mean I guess never say never but, I couldn't see it anywhere even close right now.

Give me a break. UL  BB won C-USA once and the BE twice, hardly a dominant team. Couldn't even win the AAC outright this year. You guys have a couple of good years in BB and FB and all of a sudden you think your ND. The ACC will fit you guys well, a new underachiever. It's easy to kick a dog that's already been hit by the car, but that dog will always remember that kick. Don't turn your back.

How about you give thinking a break? I think most USF fans want to have UL's success in football and basketball. And they were in the top 10 teams for most football wins 2000-2010 genius. ND wasn't.

Soooo UL has a more successful sports program than ND? Yeah, ok. Duh. While ND was playing the top FB programs UL was playin Metro, C-USA and BE teams as well as such powerhouses as Kentucky Wesleyan,

/L

:nope:

The Fighting Irish hold the highest winning percentage among college football programs[3] and have 13 national championships recognized by the NCAA, tied for first out of all FBS schools in the post-1900 era.

In the 2000s they did in terms of winning percentage. ND was playing top teams with bad talent and awful coaching about half of that decade. So they weren't successful at their level while UL was. USF played that decade and didn't have the wins UL did, since its so easy. Most teams didn't.

You are talking ancient history for your winning percentage. Why not bring up Harvard and Ivy league schools too? Talk about SMH.

It all depends on the timeline we're talking about. In the next 10 years, I'd like to be able to care about the NCAA tournament for reasons other than my gambling addiction. It'd just be nice to start a season with the expected result being a bid more often than not. Let's start there.

Ah yes, that elusive metric....time. Forty two seasons, thus far, and 185 to 338 in conference play, with a 6-11 post season record. I'm sticking with my original assessment that the upper limit for USF basketball is going to the be the occasional NCAA appearance, hopefully not decades apart.

Maybe it's because UofL has lost 40 tournament games and ND has only lost 37

(of course, the flip side is that UofL has won 70 to ND's 31, LOL)

What amazes me most about the Cards is that they have hit such homeruns with coaching hires. They've only had FOUR coaches since WW2!

We've had four since the durned Gulf War.

Where the two lines cross is when they hired Hickman in 1944. From 1911 to 1944 they essentially played .500 ball, Ever since then they've been a winning ball club. We should have such a future! Go Bulls!!

We have been coached by 2 Hall of Fame Coaches the last 40 years.

I don't think Mr. Winkle was trying to say Notre Dame basketball was more successful then UL.  Pretty sure of that.

Doesn't matter about the past, its the present, or the immediate future. Anyone posting about Gonzaga history before Few? No, because they are currently a winning team year in and out. USF is a coaching hire away from success.

Didn't say they weren't just said I couldn't see them winning a National Title ever in basketball.  Support, Money, Coach, being a couple of the reasons.   Like Mark Few and Gonzaga.  Problem USF will have is it's not a destination bball job.  Also basketball is not their main focus like a Gonzaga, Marquette, Georgetown,Buter  Neither really is Gonzaga but, Few kind of slid right after being an assistant for years.  Meaning you could have a guy come and and be successful but, if it gets to successful he is off to greener pastures.  I can see USF getting into the NCAA tourney;s yearly.  Pretty sure that's what the fan base want's.  Hope it happens for them. Least hope they get someone who gets the fans to come out to more games. That's all I was saying.  I know fan bases have sensitive fans, realistic fans and fantasy land fans.  I'm more of the realistic one so sorry if I offended anyone.  I wasn't trying to no reason for me not to want see USF succeed.
