For me, it all comes down to Harlan's relationship with Ben Howland. Bruce Pearl has won, but not at the clip Howland has. Take a look at that guy's resume. He's put up great records year-in and year-out. He's the best available and his style would fit perfectly at USF. He's a defensive-minded guy and that's how USF has to win. That's how we won in 2011-12 and that's how we'll always win because we can't recruit the most skilled offensive players. They go elsewhere. Didn't shed a single tear about Bruce Pearl to Auburn, but I will if Ben Howland ends up somewhere else. Only those inside really know whether he's a viable candidate or not, but on paper, no one is even close.

I have to disagree with that.  If FGCU can come up with offensive players USF can as well.  The problem is finding guys that can score but also play defense and rebound.  Those guys go to Kentucky, Duke, etc.  Can't remember who it was, but a while back one of the coaches (may have been Wichita State's coach but really not sure) said that he recruits scorers figuring he can teach some schemes on defense.  If you recruit a guy that can't shoot but can play D, you are stuck with a guy that can't shoot/score.

He wasn't even on their radar.

How could you possibly know that?

We were too busy picking the search firm to use for the hire.

Wouldn't you like to know  ;)   Let's just say big women/men in high places.  I'm in the know before most and catch the details not for regular consumption as they bleed out.  I don't share much.  Another tidbit, they've been hung up on one individual........I hope they can get him or USF is scrambling.  And like baUSFkid, that's all I'm saying, till it comes out in the funny papers.

I'm still betting, if that's true, it's because they already knew USF wasn't on his radar ...

People discussing Pearl to Auburn is a meltdown?

Too much drama, you want a meltdown, go back to threads about McNeese State or when Leavitt would lose a conference game.

It wasn't a melt down.  However, we have several people on here that believe that we can get any coach, recruit, etc. we want and if we don't it's a failure by USF.

It appears to be a failure even if we don't get a coach we didn't want...

???????

What is it if we do get a coach we don't want?

Either a successful failure, or a filed success. Can't figure out which is which...

Possible I guess, I don't physically sit at that round table.

Any USF fan who thought this university would hire anyone with past NCAA violations OR would win a bidding war with Auburn is delusional.

Well, I'm on record as to my thoughts of you and your brand of fandom, Mr. Nondonor Nonseasonholder. May as well place me on your "Proudly ignoring" list.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
