TAMPA, MARCH 1, 2014 – The Bulls bounced back in a big way in the third game of a four-game series with Columbia as USF posted a 13-5 victory in game two of a doubleheader Saturday evening at the USF Baseball Stadium.

After totaling 12 hits in the first two games, the Bulls matched that in game three as they notched their highest run total since scoring 19 in the first game of the Penn State Series.  Ten different USF hitters recorded a hit in the game led by multi-hit performances from Luke Maglich (2-for-2, one run one RBI) and Buddy Putnam (2-for-3, one run, 3 RBIs).  Vincent Leto made his first start of the year and had a nice performance going 1-for-2 knocking in three and crossing the plate twice while drawing three walks.

Freshman Brandon Lawson (2-0) had his best performance in a Bulls uniform going seven innings giving up just two hits and an unearned run.  The right-hander didn’t allow a free pass while striking out five.

USF (8-2) got on the board right away pushing a run across in the bottom of the first inning.  Putnam had a sacrifice fly to centerfield bringing home Hayden Kelley who reached on a one-out single to left-centerfield.

The Bulls blew the game wide open in the fourth when they scored eight runs on seven hits but were aided by a Columbia error.  Maglich broke the 1-1 tie with a RBI single up the middle plating Daniel Portales.  With the bases loaded, Leto had a two-run double down the right field line making it a 4-1 contest.  Joe Altieri, Nik Alfonso, Kyle Teaf, Portales and Putnam all a RBI later in the inning.

Putnam and Zac Gilcrease extended the lead in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, with RBI base hits making it an 11-1 ballgame.

Columbia (2-1) would score four unearned runs over the final two innings to make the game look a little closer than it was. 

Adam Cline suffered the loss for the Lions lasting just 3.1 innings surrendering seven runs (six earned) on four hits and three walks.  Jordan Serena paced the offense for Columbia going 3-for-4 while Nick Maguire was 2-for-4.

The two sides will wrap-up the four-game set tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the USF Baseball Stadium.
