Guangdong takes first semi-finals berth

BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Yi Jianlian, a former NBA player, snatched 38 points and 16 rebounds to lead Guangdong Hongyuan beat Shanghai Sharks 101-88 in Game 3 of the first round of Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league playoffs on Sunday.

 

 

Guangdong won 3-0 in the best-of-five series of the first round playoffs to reach the semi-finals.

 

 

Zhu Fangyu had 18 points and eight rebounds for Guangdong, while Joshua Powell finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, and Wang Shipeng added nine points and seven assists.

 

 

Shanghai's Quincy Douby grabbed a team-high 31 points, and veteran Liu Wei finished with 17 points.

 

 

This is the 11th time that Guangdong progress through the first round of CBA playoffs, and the defending champions will fight against the winners between Beijing Ducks and Zhejiang Guangsha in the coming semi-finals.

 

 

Beijing defeated Zhejiang 115-96 on Sunday to lead the series 2-1.

 

 

Stephon Marbury had 22 points and six assists, while Randolph Morris contributed 35 points and 10 rebounds for Beijing. Zhejiang's Jonathan Gibson finished with 46 points and 8 rebounds.

 

 

In Saturday's other two matches, Dongguan Marco Polo led the series by 2-1 with a 114-101 home victory over Tianjin Ronggang. Donte Greene and Bobby Brown combined with 63 points for Dongguan.

 

 

Xinjiang Guanghui upset Liaoning Hengye 106-98 to lead the series 2-1. Shirelijan Muxtar hit seven three-pointers to pace Xinjiang with 30 points, while Dominique Jones grabbed a game-high 34 points and three rebounds.
