PETERSBURG, JAN. 18, 2014 – Linebacker DeDe Lattimore strapped on a USF helmet one last time Saturday night and represented the Bulls well in the 2014 East-West Shrine Game at Tropicana Field. One of the most consistent players in program history, Lattimore posted a tackle and played a pivotal role in forcing a critical turnover down the stretch in the East’s 23-13 victory. Late in the fourth, the West had the ball in the red zone down, 23-13, when Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees threw a pass over the middle. Lattimore got his hands on the ball and it ended up with Wake Forest’s AJ Marshall. The turnover iced the game for the East. “I came out here and just gave it all I could,†Lattimore said. “I needed to get my draft stock up and get ready for the combine.†Lattimore took great pride in representing the Bulls just one year after cornerback Kayvon Webster (Denver Broncos) and linebacker Sam Barrington (Green Bay Packers) performed well in the longest-running college all-star game. “It’s a great opportunity. It’s great for Coach Taggart and USF Nation just coming out here and being a representative,†Lattimore said. “I take honor in that.†The week leading up to Saturday consisted of more than just preparation for the game. The Athens, Ga. native’s fondest memory came from something that wasn’t related to football at all. “My biggest memory was going to the Shrine Center,†he said. “Seeing the little kids’ faces and making them smile, it was an honor and it was the biggest thing I took from it.†As for the future of USF football, Lattimore has high hopes for Taggart and the Bulls after capping his college career off in impressive fashion. Lattimore finished his run with the Bulls ranking second all-time at USF in tackles (337) and forced fumbles (6), seventh in sacks (15) and 10th in tackles for loss (32.5). “I expect the team to be more physical,†Lattimore said. “Everybody should be clicking and USF should be back.†As for Lattimore’s future, USF’s annual Pro Day and the NFL combines, now with several regional dates through February and March, are on the horizon. The NFL Draft is set to take place May 8-10 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
