State College is the recently renamed Manatee Community College (Sarasota too, maybe)

i read about this school in my monthly usf alumni news

 

When Community Colleges were granted 4-year degrees, many decided to change their names to remove the stigma associated with community colleges and better reflect their goals.  Manatee wisely decided to grab the "State College of Florida" name before anyone else did:

No.  Some counties "share" a college.

Perfect example is the one that started this thread: State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota

And a couple of the smallest/least populated counties don't have one at all
