it's laughable to suggest that any job that pays at least $1.5M per year will be difficult to fill.

He didn't say it would be difficult to fill ...

A lot of Jones' crap is just that .... kaka .... but some does make sense and was of a little concern to some when the lynch mobs were out. Potential candidates can question the patience. Holtz was let go after, if you really look at it, one bad year.

I look at it as one bad year and another year of total dispair and regression. But, hey, at least those APR scores were on the way up!

Not going to rehash all that here again but it's just something that potential candidates MAY look at ...

Then they haven't done their homework. Everyone knows when Skip came to USF, we were poised to go bowling regularly and were thought to win the BE.

They went bowling his first year .... were a chip shot field goal away from going bowling in his second year ... that, and the other last minute losses, would be uncovered if people do their homework. This year was a trainwreck, especially with the expectations.

Pretty much my thoughts and about the only reason Woolard would have to keep Holtz one more year in hopes he turned it around. This is going to be a hard job to fill with a competent, dedicated coach. As it is, every coach that comes in will be out the first chance they get. Another thing was that Holtz, despite the rumor he was going to resign, had not such inclination to move on.

He had no inclination to move on yet took a contract extension after a 5-7 year b/c other programs were interested?

Are you sure that says what you mean it to say?

There were also a couple of close last minute victories in his first year as well. OT wins against Miami and Louisville and another 1 pt win over Rutgers. That's 2 close games from missing that precious bowl game his first year as well.

Although, to be honest Skip's downfall was losing to Ball State. As you mentioned this year was BAD and warranted his release. The last two games weren't nearly as bad as the Ball State, Temple, and Miami debacles this year.

Maybe, the engineer in me isn't so good at the English sometimes.

"Its called being clutch. And on the other had, what if he had won all the other close games USF lost? This thread wouldn't exist. There are teams that get to the top with very close games. There are second half teams that are routinely behind in the first half and make it to the playoffs. Happens all the time."

Skip...is that you?

Do you watch football?

That happens on all levels. It was in the paper here in GA about one of the county's teams whose luck finally ran out, history all season of coming from behind, and was knocked out of the state championship playoffs.

I get it. I'm just saying that if you point out all of Skip's close losses, then you better also point out all of Skip's close wins for comparison.

USF is one of the very best of the 3rd tier jobs in the country with the very real possibility of making it into a top 2nd tier program. Someone who likes a challenge with potential will jump at this job.

Tom Jones is a windbag full of hot air. In a debate or argument, any of us could bury him on this subject. Instead, the paper allows him to spout his vitrol unchecked.

Blog posts are slamming him.

Interesting the comment that he is on 620 along with duimig, and both are bashing USF, and USF moved over to 98.7 The Fan. Hmmmm, connection there?
