Hi Guest,

Just a note to point out our TBP-initiated drive to raise funds for the Bulls Football IPF - doing our share, and more.  Please consider donating at least $23 to the effort, and passing on to others as well.  You can read more about the project at the link above.

$10/semester athletic fee isn't too bad, I thought fee was higher!

A large percentage of USF's athletic budget is from student fees. At the start of each semester, when students pay their tuition, students also get whacked for a fee to support USF athletics. It's not big, rich donors keeping the athletic programs going--it's the grunt students who have to scrounge to pay USF athletic fees.

Students that have Tampa as their home campus pay a flat $10 fee per semester that goes to Athletics. Getting in free to all athletic events more than makes up for the little $10 fee.

There is a $20 flat fee per semester for maintenance of the Marshall Center for these same students which is twice the Athletic fee. Why no uproar over that?

Way, way, way more students use the Marshall Center than go to sporting events. No matter what school you are at, there will be many students who don't care about sports. But almost all students use the Marshall Center. Only football, back when the team was actually worth watching, could ever claim to draw close to even a third of the student body, if that much. This is a bad comparison.

Not saying the student fee shouldn't be charged or is a bad thing, I don't really have an opinion. But to many students, getting in to sporting events for free doesn't matter. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I agree that many more students utilize the Marshall Center and alot of students don't care about getting in free to sporting events.

It wasn't meant to be a comparison. I was trying to point out that it was only $10 per semester, per student (on the Tampa campus) which is really a small fraction of the overall cost of tuition and fees.
