According to the above news story, USF-Tampa admitted almost 800 more freshmen this year than last. With all the budget and funding cuts, is USF simply enrolling and crowding classrooms with more students to get the extra tuition money to help with general USF operational money needs? Doesn't sound like this enrollment increase is good news if more instructors weren't hired too.

This came to mind as well. So much for reducing the student to teacher ratio. Probably went up instead of down.

800 more freshman and the student profile still went up? Wow. My son just started his application to USF, I guess we better check to see if we need to apply for housing at the same time.

Total number of first time in college freshman is 3,291. Last year that number was 2,832. MamaBull posted this link on another thread:

Overall, the university added 642 more students, with big jumps from medical and grad students.

Yeah, I saw the USF eprofile report thing. The USF InfoMart report referenced in the above news story states a combined number of 4067 FTICs AND Other Freshmen at USF 2012. The numbers can get confusing...bottom line--USF enrolled a lot more freshmen this year and I'd bet it was done to get more money in USF's till. http://usfweb3.usf.edu/infocenter/?silverheader=&report_category=STU&report_type=SMAJS&reportid=145270

Would be great to get more around JP, we're in the middle of no where. Obviously this wont change till I leave, though.

I think your son will be fine. There will be less incoming freshmen than number of beds. Freshmen get priority when it comes to housing.

This is great news, only issue is that USF is out of space on campus to build any more on-campus housing... hopefully they choose to expand the campus now vs. trying to open another failed satellite campus in BFE that will just end up seceding anyway.

USF needs to expand north and west...

What? There is plenty of room to build more dorms on campus.

Isnt the plan at some point to demolish the older Andros buildings and build more mega-dorms like Juniper-Poplar?
