I got this in my email today about the new park. It also came with a diagram attached below!

" Highlights you will find in the new park include a large sun shade structure, a tranquil fountain area, beautifully landscaped grounds, and plenty of gathering or “chilling†spots for kicking back and relaxing alone or with friends and colleagues.

Collins Park is expected to be completed by the end of August. We’ll keep you updated during the summer on the progress. We look forward to seeing you at Collins Park this fall."

Who is the "Collins" that's being commemorated?

Im interested to see what this park looks like. I can picture the big open area on the south side of the library. Any landscaping improves the look of campus, so I'm all for it.

That big open area is a vital parking lot for many USF students. You really want to get rid of it?

Yes, I do. Less parking on campus helps encourage more people to live on campus/close to campus and use the Bull Runner. UF, FSU, and many other universitiies dont have near the amount of parking USF has. USF is attempting to shed it's commuter image. So if you are asking me if I would rather have a nice lush park that helps make our campus more beautiful rather than a parking lot, my answer is a definite yes.

+100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

WTF? Where did you read they where planning to take out the parking lot anywhere in this plan? . The area they are talking about is the grassy area IN-BETWEEN the library and the parking lot...... :bang:

I know they arent removing the parking lot

If you read what I was replying to, it was that I much rather they reduce the parking lots on campus in order to have more greenspace. :bang::chair:

I'm really glad they are doing this. The USF library is pretty crappy compared to where I am now and the upper floors could really use a make over.

If your a history buff (or just really into USF info/trivia,) I'd recommend getting

University of South Florida: The First Fifty Years, 1956-2006

Great read on the beginnings of USF and makes a great coffeebook

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
