Recruiting:

When Seth took over at USF, we were pretty bare; we couldn't compete in C-USA with the talent at the time. It took him 2 seasons to get things rolling. I think that was when B.B. and Tron came in -or sometime after that. But that was where the talent peaked: It got us to .500 in C-USA, which was good enough for a shot at the NIT and maybe, maybe a pity shot at the NCAA's -those loosing streaks on the road did us in.

Why (was it / is it) so hard to recruit at USF?

1) Our attendance is 3,000 - 4,000

2) We haven't had the TV exposure (no flash).

3) $$$$$ $$$$$  --I still remember a story about Cincy and their recruiting jet...

4) Our wins/losses record, the conference, the facility, teammates, faith in the coaching staff, and whatever else kids think about before they sign.

... the past is gone -and so will C-USA after a few more games.

Enter the BIG EAST: the best 'darn' basketball conference in the country!

There are only 2 choices for USF basketball: (a) get beaten into the ground and fold up like a tent and give up basketball, or ( improve and improve and hang with the Big Boys and become a contender.

Free with the ticket into the Big East:

1) Exposure: night in and night out, our boys will be on TV and playing some really good teams -at least 16 of them.

2) Attendance will improve automatically: just like when the Redbirds come out to see their team play in the Dome, other teams' fans will come to the Dome.

3) Football will give attention to basketball. People will hear "South Florida" more and more every year from now on.

4) Kids will want to 'wake up' and play in the Big East -the best 'darn' basketball conference in the country!

What must USF do?

1) $$$ ---> for Basketball. The recent ad money is a start.

2) Have a good coaching staff in place: I absolutely believe that we do. Go and read about Coach Mac's bio: the man knows basketball.

3) Recruit like mad: We will never be a contender if we don't bring in the talent to compete with the talent in the Big East. It will be easier to recruit, but we still need better recruiting.

The Odds on USF Succeeding / Failing:  

4:1 The money will be there and the recruits will come...

My Prediction for USF Basketball:

Next year: (Conference wins: 4)

Recruiting: expect some top-100 recruits

The following year (Coach Mac's 4th year): (Conference wins: 7 and maybe an NIT bid.)

LOL, pretty are funny.  Talking about recruiting there was wise ole redneck who said it plain as can be, "Just git err dun."  Sorry I watched the redneck comedy tour II last nite.  A laff every 2-3 minutes.

"What must USF do" - this is pretty straightforward and I think you captured it. You seem more optimistic that we will be able to conquer these hurdles in a short period of time. It will be interesting to see how Woolard puts his stamp on this program, now that he's here and can see where we are.
