I didn't know that an illegal substitution call could be reviewed. Those sitting around me were baffled, as well. Can someone clear this up for me?

We only had 11 guys on the field, even with the guy running off. The refs called illegal substitution thinking this player running towards the sideline was #12.

So, on a pivital down we only played 10 guys on defense.

isn't that what we want?

Admittedly, my brain has already blocked out portions of the game, but wasn't that play one of the few we actually stopped them on the drive?

I know what happened. I just didn't think that it could be reviewed.

And regarding the delay of game:

I understand that penalty. They probably celebrated a little too long. Probably could have gotten the play in in time, but why rush it? A delay of game moves you back 5 yards on an extra point. Doesn't change things that much.

of course it doesn't but it certainly shows a lack of control. good for you if you think players should celebrate to the detriment to the team.

I'm pretty sure I've seen 12-men calls reviewed/challenged before, but I'm not sure if it was specifically college. It's probably reviewable since it isn't a judgement penalty, but rather one based on specific criteria. I would assume penalties such as illegal touching (stepping out of bounds) and illegal forward pass (throwing from across the line of scrimmage) would be.

Speaking of the latter, I do know that type of penalty was challenged in the NFL in last week in the Patriots game. Of course, that doesn't mean the college rule is the same.

Shouldn't we be focusing on the mistakes that actually hurt us? Yea, of course it would be better to not make that mistake, but I'd put a lot more emphasis on mistakes like turning the ball over, committing extremely stupid automatic first down penalties, and a horrible late-in-the-game defensive gameplan rather than a an extra point being five yards back.

Makes sense. Didn't think of that.

just an example of a terribly run team. kind of like rushing 2 on 3rd and forever or rushing 2 on 4th and 10.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
