In my ritualistic walk over the paper outside my hotel room, the front page read "coaches pay soars again"

Picked up and read, was very surprised to see Skips pay was up there and surprising higher than some coaches like Dennis Erickson, Mike Stoop (x), Butch Jones, Mike Riley, Rick Neuheisel, and Dana Holgersun to name a few. He actually ranks fairly high-good for him

#33 according to this site. universities need to do something about the out of control salaries.

no reason a public employee should be making $1.9M a year to coach football.

especially when that university, that is increasing tuition at a far greater rate than inflation, needs athletic fees paid by students in order to do so.

If he can perform, bring us a BE championship and elevate this program into the national spot light (in a positive way), then he deserves every penny.

I think his contract is for the 1.9 mill. His annual salary is closer to 500K

his contract is for $9.1M over 5 years.

that doesn't include bonuses, country club membership, $900/month car allowances and a stadium suite.

not sure where they came up with that figure.

no he doesn't. he is a state employee. he does not work for a for profit company.

my tax dollars go to support public education not to help pay a $1.9M football coach. every public university should have a cap on the amount they can pay a football coach.

I could be wrong, but I don't think your tax dollars pay for any of his salary.

I believe we charge our students something like $13M per year in athletic fees.

money is fungible.

pay our coaches less and those athletic dollars can be used for general operating expenses which would reduce the amount of tax dollars our university needs.

alabama could pay saban less than the $6M a year he earns and use the savings to reduce taxes paid to help operate the school.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
