I said it preseason, I'll say it now, I like BJ. I think he's a tremendous athlete. He plays hard. He's just not a good QB. He just panics and throws interceptions whenever he sees a defense with the slightest bit of pressure..

Back then people jumped all over me, despite the statistical proof that the majority of his stats came against weak defenses.

It's not all of our problems, but Beej has certainly helped. This game reminded me of Cuse last year. Depressing.

He had 2 interceptions. The second one was out of his control. The defender made a great leap to swat the ball and set his teammate up perfectly for the INT. I'm in the group of people that says BJ has progressed greatly since last season. He is a much smarter QB and the best option that we have.

By the way: on that last pass to Griffin, BJ was right to lead him. He just led him a little too much. That's the highest pressure situation that he has had all season. To be off by a couple inches really isn't all that terrible.

I didn't see any sign of panic. The guy is no Peyton Manning, but I don't see where the coaches are turning him loose to do what he does best for a complete game.

The offensive schem played right into the hands of UCONN's run defense. All they had to do for most of three quarters was stop the run between the tackles.  Once BJ started running in the 2nd half it started to open things up. How many batted passes were there?  You can't change BJ's height. How about rolling the pocket or putting him in more run/pass options when UCONN was well coached to block the passing lanes. Or how about the novel idea of running some play action passes after running up the middle so much. Funny how there may be some soft spots if the LBs are coming up.

I would like to see the coaches let BJ be a run option from the first play of the game and make the defense have to account for BJ, Scott and then have to cover receivers too.

The guy has thrown two interceptions in six games.  That isn't the sign of a QB that panics.

Your "statistical proof" has a lot to do with the play calling which becomes ultra conservative in the bigger games.  One thing I fail to understand is why we run the offense wide open against lesser opponents if we are going to tighten up against the better opponents.  Run the same offense all the time so the players are accustomed to it.

BJ is fine.  what worries me is that with these losses he will try to do more than he should.  I.E. he will start running more because Love left his hands at home when he came to play this season, the OL cannot create a hole for our RBs and we seem to have issues with what to do when a play busts.

I liked his decision making up to now. But you could see that he wants to take matters into his own hands to try to win.

Well, at some point he does have to try to make plays.  Playing to not make mistakes is ok, but when you are behind and not making things happen, I think it's ok to take a chance here or there.

I do think we really missed TRex out there today.  On a slightly different subject, it seems like it was a bad idea to use the freshmen WRs earlier in the season if they aren't going to be out there trying to make plays in a game like this when we needed playmakers.

BJ is a choker.  We need a QB who is clutch.  Someone who is capable of putting together a game winning drive.  Like MG used to do all the time.

when he puts passes on numbers and they are dropped, or down field routes cannot get open what is he supposed to do?

On paper we always get these fast WRs and they never get open, also, to go deep you have to have an OL that can give you time.  That is not happening.

For that matter, we are horrible at giving the offense starting field position.  Watching the rest of the NCAA big plays, on kicks, we seem to run 10 yards and stop to juke the defenders that come down.  On the long kick runs those guys just sprint and make the defense try to catch them.  Most times they blow by the arm tackle.  We stopped that.  TRex was a HS sprinter record holder, ****, sprint son.  Use that 4.3 speed and make someone put a shoulder on you.

Why does he taunt and laugh at the opposing players in games we are losing? He did yesterday and against Pitt. He has no maturity.  It's bush league and not something you expect to see from a starting RS junior QB on a BCS team.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
