This offense has now evolved backwards into the same BS it was before. The only difference is the coaches are afraid to use their bigget weapon for the entire game. Just like they were afraid last year.

Why can't we commit to Scott for 25 to 30 carries a game with Murray as aa change of pace?  Yeah Murray is good, but most other teams have more than one good back that gets less carries.

Why can't we limit our receivers to 3 or 4 feature receivers. Is it necessary for 8 or 9 guys to be thrown to every game?

Any DC that watches any tape at all can figure out that when Miller lines up in the backfiield it's an option pitch. We do it everytime and only when he does. When Lamar goes in motion 9 times out of 10 its a jet sweep.

I was sitting in the stands telling my son which playss they would run based on personnel and formation. It was so easy to see coming.

2 things that have driven me crazy since Rod Smith was here. 1. When we are successfully running the ball why can't we ever set up play action. And 2. Why are we the only team that can't successfully run a fade to the back corner of the end zone. The only duo that could that were Julmiste and Johnny Peyton. Grothe couldn't do it. Even with 2 6'5" receivers and BJ can't even throw touchdown passes let alone fades.

Let's feature one back, 3 receivers and take the shackles off BJ and let him make plays. Its amazing what he can do when they turn him loose.

Today they played not to make mistakes rather than trying to make plays.

The USF scared O.

What we need to do:

Throw the ball downfiled. Run some play action. Keep feeding Scott.

Exactly. And he was a one man show because he was all we had. I am not saying it has gone back to those days. I am saying the offense seems similar to what we have seen since. 3 years of the Grothe era and now 3 years of BJ.

We all complained when it was running back by commiittee. The running backs would get 10 to 12 handoffs and would not be allowed to get into a rhythym. And we complained it was 8 or 9 receivers getting thrown to once a game and the offense sputters.

Well here it is again.  Our running backs get get between 10 to 12 carrries a game and every game we 8 or 9 guys getting a catch.

If we are rotating that many guys into games, are they splitting reps during practice?  Is there a possibillity that with so many guys sshuffling in and out that BJ can't develop any timing with one core set of receivers?  Seems to me that good offenses have only 2 or 3 receivers that get the majority of the plays and only come out when injured or situationally.

In the beginning of the year it seemed like the offense was going to feature Griffin as the go to receiver, but the last few games it just seems like he is just one of the guys to be thrown to each game.

This is Exactly what I was thinking while watching the game!

Pick your best 4 receivers and stick with them to develop timing and continuity w BJ.

Regression in play calling. Where is the TE?  Swing passes and screens to backs?  Can we call something besides a run middle on 1st down?

Looked like old style Canales sandlot football to me.

Absolutely sick we lost to that sorry UConn team.

Wat was the point of burning McFarland's red shirt for one catch?

Strategy and personnel management so far have been very questionable this year in my opinion.

He used his red shirt at Univ of Florida before transferring here..

Using multiple receivers is a good thing imo-- it doesn't let the defense focus on one or to main guys. I don't think a receiver needs to establish any sort of rhythm to be productive. Running back is a different story. I personally prefer us to have  a feature back with a 3rd down specialist (or someone ho can give the feature back a rest after 4 or 5 carries in a drive).

I don't know what the answer is to solve our offensive problems. Sometimes we look very smooth out there and then we start making mistakes. More often though what I see is our team being outplayed on the field itself- whether that is from a talent level or just a desire perspective-- something is off. Someone posted a while back that this is the most talented team we have ever fielded. I don't buy that for a second. We've had better defenses for sure. I think the problem is still depth related. It would explain the good starts and then the waning mid-season as our guys just wear out/get hurt etc.

Last point- as much as some are happy we don't have CJL ranting on the sidelines, there is something to be said for being a passionate HC--someone who inspires and motivates. That is not a request to get CJL back or that CSH cannot be/is not that type of coach-- just seems like we are missing the energy needed to get up for these games.
