South Florida's Big East squeeze on UCF is prudent preservation

George Diaz COMMENTARY

October 6, 2011

Memo to anyone who believes that South Florida is trying to freeze out the University of Central Florida from the Big East:

Skip the righteous indignation. Just like there is no crying in baseball, there is no compassion or compromise in college football.

It's the ultimate food fight, with everybody slinging asparagus and broccoli in the hopes that something splats and you snag an invite to a conference with a BCS hookup.

Believe what you want, Triple.  But who do you look to when you're sitting without an AQ conference, soon.  Geography?  Nope.  USF and UCF could have worked together to provide a solid partnership.  Neither school had a chance outside of the Big East, on their own.  But y'all hate UCF so much, you'd rather kill or be killed, out of spite.  The two of us would have been stronger as a team, than trying to go at it alone for a conference like the Big 12 to consider.

Yep .... coupled with the lack of history, tradition ... no AAU rating ... Stuff being partnered with you assclowns would have no effect on.

USF and UCF could have worked together to provide a solid partnership.  Neither school had a chance outside of the Big East, on their own
.

LOL ... You're hitting the sauce again, aren't you? If we had no chance on our own, how would attaching a gold and black anchor have helped?

It couldn't have hurt, right?  Look...USF isn't in position to have not looked into it or tried and put the water under the bridge.  Both should be or should have been working together knowing the Big 12 is and will be the only shot left for USF to be included in an AQ conference.  You said it yourself....lack of history, tradition ... no AAU rating aren't your side.  Obviously Tampa alone isn't enough, either, this time.  But...that 13th market teamed with the 19th market and a strong hold on TVs from Daytona to Naples is something that can be pitched.  As well...if both schools went in a pitched the idea to the Big 12 (who openly said that they prefer to have schools that their fans can drive to)...but then are looking at WVU, UL and Cincy, possibly.  Those aren't too driveable for Big 12 schools.  If fans are going to fly to games...where would they rather go?  Morgantown, Cincy and Louisville....or Tampa and Orlando every year?  They also get a built-in rivalry with two schools obviously focused on athletic improvements, each year.  Plus...how many recruiting opportunities are Big 12 teams going to have in WV, KY and Cincy?  Oklahoma already has 3 guys from Florida on their list this year.  They'd play in Florida every year, possibly.  Tampa and Orlando aren't enough alone, here.

This has nothing to do with UCF trying to ride coattails, either.  Both would have to go in as equal partners, here.  It's do or die.  It's like USF is a front runner and UCF fans want USF to tag them along.  USF is in danger here and UCF is looking at their only BCS shot (Big East) go down the tubes.  For both schools...don't you think it's worth a shot.  If the Big 12 wanted USF alone...they'd simply invite USF alone.  What could it hurt?

Goldie, just continue with the "USF sucks" stuff .... You sound like even a bigger moron when you try to post things like this.

There is some sense to the argument. I don't necessarily agree that it's likely, but I think it's worth consideration by the schools.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
