Yeah, that guy was wrong. Leavitt took us from nothing to relevant, Holtz is taking the next step. USF couldn't be where they are today without both of those coaches.

I love what he said about the 2s all playing together early against FAMU.  I know a lot of you guys might disagree, but I would love to see the 2s start the game and play the first two drives or first drive to score on O and first stop on D.  It would make their minutes extremely important having something riding on the line, instead of mop up duty.

That and some red zone work for our 1s on offense would make me happy.

I think everyone would like to see the 2's get as much quality work as possible but starting your backups is a slap in the face of your opponent.  And you can't fake an "on the line" situation.  Those 2's know they would be yanked if their was actually any question of the game's outcome.

After the first and all other scores, FSU would put the entire 2nd team offense in for that drive. It gave the 2's quite a bit of on the line experience.

Hence the reason I said most would disagree.

I listened to the interview.  Skip hinted that he is going to play the 2s early in the game (don't know how early that is for Skip); and that when he plays the 2s, it will be all 2s and no sprinkled in 1s.  I suggested, in jest because obviously it wouldn't happen (even though I would love to see it), that Skip start the 2s and put the game on their back.  The 2s looked horribly unprepared in Saturdays game, and some (or a lot) are going to need to step up big time this year.

To your point about faking "on the line" situations, you may be right in the sense that if the game is in jeopardy the 2s get pulled; but, I disagree that you can't make "on the line" situations.  You can run a 2 minute offense at the start of the 2nd half (or any other time in the game), you can play man in dime or nickel situations with no blitz and force the D to make a stop (doesn't help with play call retention, but helps illustrate another view).

You are right that it would be disrespectful to the opposing team, and I agree.  I just want to see the 2s put through some learning situations on Saturday (with real pressure, not a false sense of pressure from just coaches), that will hopefully help them develop quicker, so if we might need them (guaranteed we will need some during the long haul) they will be useful by the time Big East play rolls around.

Back to the point, I was just relaying what Skip had said.  I am extremely happy with this team right now, and feel like we are in for a good year.  I don't think I have ever felt so confident in this team before (even in '07).  Every facet (offense, defense, and special teams) of the team is top notch, on their game.  Now, if they can just add some experienced (reliable) depth we will be unstopabull.
