I BULLIEVE this article and discussion belongs on THIS board, but some mod may think otherwise.

Why do I say that?

When SU was proposed to move to the ACC along with Miami and Boston College, the powers that be in Virginia put pressure on UVA to accept Virgina Tech and SU was left behind in the Big East.

I just hope the our AD and our Prez [who currently chairs the NCAA Board of Directors] have already had discussions with the proper political powers in Florida [as well as other relevant people] to make sure that USF isn't left behind in the event of a major realignment in college football. We should be very proactive, because there will only be so many teams allowed in the BCS lifeboat when all is said and done.

FSU preparing for realignment possibilities, such as moving to SEC or welcoming Texas into ACC

..."We are going to explore the conferences, what's going on and make sure if anything does happen at Florida State that we are ready," Haggard said from his law firm office in Coral Gables.

Haggard said the university has been discussing realignment possibilities for some time but just now decided to take the next step and form a committee. They hope to have that committee in place by next week.

Haggard is not sure how many people will be on the committee but speculates it will consist of representatives from the president's office, the athletic department, Seminole Boosters, Inc., and former athletes.

"If you are going to four conferences of 16 teams we certainly want to be ready," Haggard said. "If the ACC is included in that we want to be sure we are included and have a say so in regard to the teams that are coming into our conference."

why not 4 conferences of 18 teams?

each division gets 4 home/away and then 2 out-of-division with 2 out-of-conference.

seems better to me.

Better yet, 8 conferences of 9 teams each.

Related article.

Superconferences: Which 64 teams belong?

All five Rivals writers believe USF belongs.

The question I have is, "Where?"

It would seem natural for us to be in the same conference with FSU and Miami, but they and some other schools might not want to add another Florida school for a number of reasons. Of course, if FSU goes to the SEC, then we'd have an easier time getting into a merged conference with Miami.

I'd much rather have conferences where you play everyone in the conference, every year ... having a conference champion that didn't play ALL the schools in the conference is ********, IMO.

Here's my thoughts - 6 11 team AQ conferences.  Play all 10 teams with no championship games.  13 game season allows 3 OOC games.

Playoff starts with 8 teams (which is 7 bowl games) - 6 champions plus 2 wildcards that have best BCS rankings.  So simple.
