SEPTEMBER 12, 2011

USF freshmen already bulking up for 2012

USF's freshman class has barely been on campus two months, but key members of the Bulls' Class of 2011 have been able to add weight in their short time with the school's strength and conditioning program.

USF updated its football roster with new weights just before the Notre Dame game, and the changes are encouraging for several first-year Bulls, led by promising tackle Darrell Williams, who came in at 245 pounds but is already up to 266, much more in line with a college lineman. Williams hasn't played in USF's first two games, but could see action if the Bulls take any injuries on the offensive line.

Another signee who turned heads in August, linebacker Zack Bullock, has already added 16 pounds to his frame and is now 210 pounds, and defensive end Clavion Nelson, who came in as one of the bigger defensive signees, has added 15 pounds to list at 253. And USF's two freshman receivers, who made their Bulls debut Saturday against Ball State, have also added weight -- Andre Davis is up 10 to 200 pounds, and Ruben Gonzalez is up nine to 197. Another first-year receiver, Florida transfer Chris Dunkley, is up 12 to 185 while he sits out this season.

Some players have also dropped weight in the same short span -- starting defensive tackle Cory Grissom is down 14 pounds to 321, and starting guard Jeremiah Warren is down 11 to 329. Defensive tackle Todd Chandler, who has been ruled ineligible for the season, is down 21 to 297, and second-string guard John McGhin dropped 17 to 321.

Just wanted to mention that I think that Clavion Nelson will be the next great DE at USF. He was probably the most underrated player in last year's class. Very athletic with a big wingspan. Reminds me a lot of JPP.

There is a reason Leavitt was clamoring for a dining hall for almost 10 years.

I was going to mention that, but didn't want to bring out the Leavitt haters.  ;D

Good nutrition is one of the most important things when it comes to gaining good weight and shedding bad weight.  The dining hall and new S&C program that the players just glow about is really going help elevate our player development.
