A friend alerted me to the fact that 2 key UTEP players were injured in their last game against SMU:

Starting QB Nick Lamaison got knocked out with a separated shoulder.  More will be known on when he'll return after an MRI today, but their head coach Mike Price projected two to three weeks.  The junior signal caller will be replaced by RS freshman Javia Hall who relieved Lamaison Saturday. Hall was 8-for-20 with an INT.

Their best defensive lineman Germard Reed had a serious neck injury that, initially, left him with no feeling in his arms and legs, but by the end of the game he had regained power in all extremities at a Dallas hospital.

UTEP had to come from behind to beat Stoneybrook in OT with those guys ... Doesn't bode well for a very competitive game.

Our next two weeks will not be hard.

The coaches can just keep focusing on fundamentals and getting offensive chemistry in practice.

Honestly, we can come out pretty vanilla against FAMU and UTEP. If we run the ball 90-100 times over the next two weeks and keep the passing game simple, I won't be bothered.

Save the fun for Pittsburgh on the 29th.

Given the short week between the UTEP and Pitt game, the ability to possibility that we can rest our starters will be welcomed.

Pitt, on the other hand, will be coming off a road game at Iowa and a home game against Notre Dame.

Hopefully the 1's only get to play the first quarter against UTEP. Well rested and no injuries going into the short week at Pitt.

The UTEP game could be more lopsided than the Ball State beatdown we all just witnessed.

I'd take FAMU strait up at UTEP

As it has been written about, our 2s need work and this will hopefully help them gain the experience when we hit the conference portion of the schedule.

Yeah, like he said.  Our 2's need work, we need to get them as much experience as we can.

Any nonconference game we are playing and way ahead, our starters should be resting so our 2's can get the work.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
