Anyone notice how different our offense looks this year? We're running more spread, 4 and 5 wide, no FB, quick hitters.

I wonder if the coaching staff changed their offense a little to be better suited for BJ and the playmakers like Lamar and Mitchell (not to mention Griffin who I think is going to have a monster season), or, if this was their offense all along and BJ just wasn't ready for it last year.

I guess the third option is a little of both. More seasoned OL and FB options last year, so, they played to those strengths, this year, this offense gives us the best shot.

We're not clicking on all cylinders right now, but, if this offense gets things rolling, it's going to be A LOT of fun to watch.

519 yds of offense with your 2's playing more than a quarter isn't good enough for you?  ;)

We should be scoring more, but we're moving the ball.

"all cylinders" being...

QB and WRs being on the same page

Fade Routes thrown in bounds to give the WR a chance

Better efficiency in the Red Zone

Better 3rd down conversion percentage

I like the overall offense and the statistical production, but, when we play Pitt, WVU, etc., those things need to get worked out or we certainly won't have 500 yards of offense, or, we'll have 500 yards and we'll lose, just like Notre Dame in week 1. The direction of the offense is awesome though and the "issues" are easy to fix (specifically, QB/WR - same page... we rotated a lot of guys last night, completely irrational to think BJ can be on the same page as 12 different guys)

How's that working out for Notre Dame?   ;)

Our 2011 offense looks more like a true spread.  Like the offense we ran under Hobbie/Smith and the offense WVU used to run when RichRod was there.

BJ hasn't looked very sharp on the long balls so I guess this offense plays more to his strengths.

We had a 50/38 pass/run split. That's nothing like the offense WVU ran when Rodriguez was there.

Think most is because of BJ ... big improvement.

One thing I'll say about this staff is that they seem much more willing and able to adjust to the talent on the field.  I'd say that is the number one reason the offense looks different, though this is probably much closer to what they'd like to run if they could magically transform the athletes into whatever the coaches wanted.

The coaching staff has implemented an offense that fits our personnel.  We DON'T HAVE A FB on this team that's D1 capable.  when we put in a FB at ND, it usually didn't end well, even cost us 5 yards if you'll remember when we were at the goal line as we just don't have the experience there right now.  Not saying it won't come, but it's not ready right now.  We have a ton of WRs now so if we aren't pounding with Murray/Scott, you want as many of them on the field as possible to take advantage of that speed.  If you only put 2-3 out there, a defense can match up usually.  Put 5 guys out there where you can also get extra speed or size (landi/marc), then you create massive headaches which only increase later in the game as you keep playing hurry up.

Plus, it builds experience and depth so if a WR goes down, we're not going to miss a beat by week 6...

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
