Not a bad opening weekend for the BE.

All eight Big East football coaches have their teams at 1-0 after a week that saw the conference outscore its opponents, 304-100. Since it was formed in1991, the Big East never before had a week when it started a season 8-0.

Rutgers really took it to North Carolina Central (not sure if that is a college or not).

Yeah and Cincy really took Austin Peay to the woodshed.  I didn't know APU had a football team.

The Big East was one the two major conferences - the Big 12 was the other - to go undefeated in week one. After USF knocked off then-No. 16 Notre Dame 23-20 on Saturday, the Bulls, who jumped up to No. 22 in the AP Poll, joined No. 19 West Virginia as the only ranked Big East teams. Looking ahead to this Saturday, a few key non-conference games loom for the Big East. Here a few other storylines from week one and heading into week two.

USF, West Virginia lead conference through first week: The season is only one week old, but the Bulls and Mountaineers look to be the class of the conference, and many think the showdown between the teams in Tampa Nov. 1 on ESPN will decide the Big East. But that's a question for a later date, as recent years have suggested high unpredictability in the conference. USF has a good chance to head into the conference schedule 4-0 with home games against Ball State, FAMU, and UTEP up next, but its first two games in the Big East are on the road (at Pittsburgh and at Connecticut), two locations the Bulls haven't fared well in recent years. The Mountaineers, meanwhile, get Norfolk St. on Saturday after an impressive 34-13 win against Marshall on Saturday, where quarterback Geno Smith, who many think is the best signal-caller in the conference, went 26-of-35 for 249 yards and two touchdowns in three quarters of work. West Virginia then has a tough out-of-conference stretch, traveling to Maryland (who just beat Miami (Fla.) before hosting No. 2 LSU Sept. 24.

Pittsburgh still an unknown: Another team most thought had a chance to challenge West Virginia as the class of the Big East, the Panthers remain a question mark. First-year head coach Todd Graham, the former Tulsa coach known for his high-octane offense, won the opener against Buffalo 35-16, but the Panthers struggled some on offense. With Ray Graham - who rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday - in the backfield, the Panthers' ground game will always be formidable, but the team's hopes will rest on quarterback Tino Sunseri. Pittsburgh will know where it stands after a three-game stretch at Iowa, at home against Notre Dame, and at home against USF after it gets Maine on Saturday.

Cincinnati travels to hostel SEC environment after blowout win: The Bearcats, who crushed its opening-day opponent Austin Peay 72-10 - a game in which quarterback Zach Collaros threw for four touchdowns, will get a better idea of where they stand when they travel to Knoxville to face Tennessee this Saturday. The Bearcats, which went 4-8 last year, struggled mightily last year under first year coach Butch Jones but if they somehow escape Tennessee with a win, it will assert itself as a serious Big East contender in a wide-open conference.

Connecticut, Rutgers with non-conference barometers on Saturday: After blowouts wins in their openers, the Huskies and Scarlet Knights can further prove the Big East's worth on Saturday. Connecticut, under first-year coach Paul Pasqualoni, travel to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt in week two and Rutgers, which will try to build off a dismal season in 2010, takes on North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Saturday.

Is there a game we don't know about?  ;)

North Carolina Central is in the MEAC. The same conference as FAMU.

If I'm not mistaken, that was the game that Bill Gramatica kicked his record 63 yarder.

Yes RTB, I think you are correct.  I have that picture somewhere.  Kind of odd seeing a kicker set up near midfield

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
