South Florida senior defensive backs and team captains Jerrell Young and Quenton Washington were taking a little Notre Dame pop quiz.

Who, or what, is Touchdown Jesus?

"A statue or picture or something," Young said.

Who is Knute Rockne? Who are the Four Horsemen?

"I don't know," Young said.

What about "Win one for the Gipper?"

"Man, I'm only 22," Washington said. "We just want to play."

No disrespect to history, but they just want to play. Or maybe dub it a "business trip," as some Bulls are calling it. That might be USF's best play in this situation. Notre Dame history is a movable feast, while, comparatively speaking, you could scribble USF football history on a dinner napkin.

But there's no way around what today represents for USF: a great stage. Hey, it was always a big deal when Florida, Florida State and Miami played Notre Dame, too.
