UTEP Game Time

Apologies if this has been discussed.

Has this been set yet?  Working on my travel schedule.  Hard to hit three in a row from JAX.

No it hasn't but I don't really know what the hold up is.

I actually looked into it and the chances any big Network would pick this game up are pretty unlikely. Almost all the games that have set times are already set for that day. The 6pm ESPNU slot, the Big East game of the week nooner, most of the evening games, since this is a road game for UTEP...it is not even in for consideration for CBS College Sports.

If I were a betting man, I would say it would be likely that this game will be on at 7pm and picked up by Brighthouse Networks just like the Ball State and FAMU game and also on ESPN3 if you live outside the blackout area.

The hold up is likely the result of the ND game. Win that and we may be seeing TV pick it up for a time other than 7pm.

Remember, ESPN has until TWELVE days before the game to designate the time - or select the game for a SIX day option.

This won't be a SIX day option game, but I doubt we'd see the game time announced until after the Ball State game.

And that is more because of how other teams are doing, than USF or UTEP.

Well I don't have much definitive but most of our likely landing spots will be used up. Obviously, it only takes one slot to be open to move the gametime. 

As of right now....the BE game of the week that week is Toledo at SU at noon.

Then there is the ND-Pitt game on which is set for either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 at noon.

Then there is the LSU-WVU game which has also not been set....but obviously that game will be on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 at noon, 3:30 or 7pm.

I also understand the ESPNU 7pm timeslot is locked into the SEC.

The best I could see is maybe the UTEP-USF game could get that nooner ESPNU slot....not that the fans would prefer that.

Other games of note that day.....(CBS has yet to choose their SEC game at 3:30)

Not saying all of those games even have access to ESPN/ABC....but....there are some decent games there that would probably be picked ahead of us. You basically have the 3 slots open at noon for one of the ESPN networks.....however many ABC regionals at 3:30 with the ESPNU 3:30 and then you have two slots open on ESPN at 7pm.

So I could see waiting on the outcome of the ND game making sense. I still don't think it is LIKELY that the game will be picked up....but I suppose that it could.

There are a lot of decent games to be sure, and your logic makes sense.  It's more likely to be a syndicated game like Ball State and FAMU... with a 7:00pm kickoff.

But let's say USF beats ND, the Bulls will get votes in the polls.  With two creampuffs, the Bulls would be 3-0 and probably ranked. ESPN might want the game to be at Noon on ESPNU.  Sure, folks in El Paso will be watching with breakfast -- but ESPN wouldn't care as much about that as they would having other East Coast viewers watching the game.

There are a lot of time slots:

NOON - ABC (regional), ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU -- and don't forget that the SEC and ACC also have syndicated "Games of the Week" like the Big East.  [The Big Ten usually gets two of the ESPN/ESPN2 slots ... so with ND-Pitt, those may all be taken.]

3:00PM - ESPNU

3:30PM - ABC (regional), ESPN, ESPN2, CBS [sEC]

7:00PM - ESPN2, ESPNU [sEC?]

7:45PM - ESPN

8:00PM - ABC (sometimes regional/sometimes national)

With the ABC regional games, you could see two matchups like Colorado-OSU and FSU-Clemson both at 3:30pm.

As you said, the game is likely to be at 7:00pm... but ESPN just wants to make sure they balanace the ranked teams accordingly.
