Omogbehin Enrolled at USF for Fall Semester

USF Head Coach Stan Heath announced today that Jordan Omogbehin, a 7-3, 330-pound center from Atlantic Shores Christian School in Chesapeake, Va., has received an initial eligibility waiver from the NCAA and enrolled at USF for the fall semester.  Omogbehin was granted partial eligibility by the NCAA which enables him to receive athletically-related financial aid and to practice as a freshman.  He is not eligible for competition during his first year.

"We are very happy for Jordan. He is a terrific young man and has a very bright future at USF", Heath said.  "Jordan will benefit immensely from redshirting this season. The redshirt year will provide him an opportunity to develop his skills, increase his strength and get acclimated to the college game."

Heath also announced that Andre Jackson, whom the Bulls signed to a National Letter of Intent last year, did not meet NCAA transfer regulations and will not attend USF.

Does that mean he'll only have 4 years left, with no redshirt without special approval by the NCAA?

with all the money being put into the sun dome....if we dont see an uptick in the basketball program....stan heath can pack his bags.

i say 1 more year.  basketball is a 1 and done anyways.  i will give him a pass for poor facilities.  but next years class better have some solid recruits.

This is to be expected when you take chances on recruits due to the state of the program and USF is not alone when it comes these situations.  USF has to get better at recruiting players "under the radar" that meet academic standards and developing players over four years.  Employing a similar approach that Butler and Gonzaga have used to become successful, that doesn't mean USF will be as successful due to the strength of the Big East, but it will at least get the Bulls to .500 in the conference.

2 years. He'll get a pass this season since we'll be a homeless basketball team this year.

Homeless and a very thin frontcourt...

This season is going to be very ugly.

He needs guys like Andrew White and Javontae Hawkins in this next class to justify a return to coach USF for the 2012-2013 season. He has already missed(yes again) on some in state talent and the recruiting is getting to that stage of desperation where we will be scrambling for bodies to feel the roster next spring. Without Coach Cox I have no confidence in JC recruiting.

I am also standing by what I said about Heath and his future here if can't reel in the talent(as mentioned earlier) for the 2012 class.

Yep ... which will coincide with the timing where Woolard needs to either extend or cut loose, contract wise.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
