Cap Off Recruiting 2005: Chat with Coach Earl Lane

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dave Glaser

USFBullsEYE.com Managing Editor

Cap off the 2005 recruiting season in style with USFBullsEYE.com, as we welcome South Florida defensive line coach Earl Lane into our chat room on Thursday, Feb. 3, starting at 8 p.m. This special interactive event is open to everyone. You don't have to be a site subscriber to participate!

USFBullsEYE.com

Earl Lane was one of Jim Leavitt's first hires at USF.

Coach Lane will spend a full hour answering your questions about the Bulls and the just-completed 2005 recruiting season. Get the inside scoop from a true insider. Find out what really happens on the recruiting trail and more special insight from a man who's been on the front lines from the very first days of USF football.

A teacher and assistant coach in Hillsborough County beginning in 1980, Lane was among Head Coach Jim Leavitt's first hires at USF in 1996. He began his coaching career at Tampa Catholic High School and had stops along the way at Chamberlain, Gaither, Tampa Bay Vo-Tech, Bloomingdale and Brandon before entering the college ranks.

With the Bulls, Lane has tutored a defensive line that has consistently exceeded expectations. In USF's first two seasons in Division I-A, the Bulls recorded 86 quarterback sacks, ranking them among the top five in the nation. They have also been among the top run-stopping units in the NCAA. In 2002, the Bulls finished seventh against the run, allowing just 87 yards per game.

Defensive end Shurron Pierson was an NFL draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2003, and former linemen Chris Daley, Tavares Jurineack and Greg Walls all participated in post-season all-star games following their USF careers.

Mark your calendar and plan to join us for this very special event to cap off an exciting year of football recruiting coverage at USFBullsEYE.com. Connect here to connect with our chat room.

Someone ask him if his son is going to come to USF next year... he was a stud DE on my little league team when I was coaching with Lance Holkte (a former Bulls QB). His name is Shericck. I'll be working at the bar so I won't be able to ask myself.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
